Season 2[]

As Elgin travels on the Grand Rapids Runner Bus, he wakes up and notices his surroundings. He begins panicking, and says they have to turn around. He stands up and tries to convince the driver, but another passenger, Randall, tries to restrain him. As the driver, Bakta, orders them to their seats, Elgin vomits on Randall, who asks for the bus to stop, and Bakta pulls over in front of the Diner. While the rest of the passengers wait outside the locked Diner, Elgin is tended to by Marielle, and Bakta tries to clean up his vomit. Brick asks her if she is a doctor, and she says she is a pediatric nurse. Mari asks if he knows where he is, and he asks her the same question. Brick asks him why he was screaming, and Elgin answers that he had a bad dream. Randall comes aboard and begins scolding Elgin, who apologizes. Randall calls him a freak, and Mari tells him to back off. Randall grabs his bag, and complains about how bad it smells. Mari offers to sit with Elgin until he is ready.

Mari helps a dizzy Elgin to the Diner, but he collapses and begins seizing. Kenny and Julie rush to his aid. He recovers, but chaos ensues after the Matthews' house collapses, trapping three people in the rubble. As Bakta tries to get everyone back on the bus, Donna Raines fires a shotgun into the wheel of the bus and orders everyone into the Diner. She is able to corral most of the bus passengers inside, but several, Elgin included, run away in fear.[1]

Elgin runs through the Forest, managing to avoid getting caught by the Creatures. He comes across the Clairy's Canned Goods Truck, where he sees people inside. Elgin begs to be let inside. After seeing that the Creatures are stalking him, they let him inside, shut the door and hang the Talisman. Boyd points his gun at Elgin and asks who he is. Elgin introduces himself and says he was on the bus, but none of them know about the bus’s arrival. After telling them what happened, he eventually falls asleep in the back. The next morning, as the four exit the truck, Boyd asks Elgin how many people were on the bus. Elgin answers at least 20-25, and that Donna tried to get them all into the Diner, but it became chaos after the house collapsed. Tabitha asks which house, and Elgin says the one next to the Diner. Realizing it was her house, Tabitha runs off to Town. As Boyd tries to get her to stay with the group, he notices worms crawling beneath his arm. He then turns to Victor, who is staring at him, and tells him to close the truck, and the three go after Tabitha.[2]

Elgin and the rest of the passengers unpack the bus before being led by Donna to Colony House. At Colony House, Fatima tells Elgin that she is his proxy, and will help him adjust. Elgin asks her how long she has been here, and Fatima tells him a year. Elgin then asks if there is a nearby lake or pond, and Fatima leads him to the Brundles. He asks about the name, and she explains that it was called the before she arrived. Fatima asks Elgin how he knew about it and he says he saw it, and realizes that Elgin was the one on the bus who had the dream. Fatima tells him that many people have strange dreams or premonitions, recalling that Nadia used to say it was like the place was calling out to them, but only some were listening close enough to hear. Fatima tells him that people have obsessed over the dreams, but none of them have been able to come up with any answers.[3]

Julie Matthews notices Elgin on the porch of Colony House and sees that he is having difficulty adjusting. She approaches him and introduces herself, and Elgin asks about her father. Julie admits that he is in rough shape and resting. Elgin asks if she has been here long, and she admits that she has only been in Town a relatively short time. Julie tells him that she is there if he needs anyone to talk, which he appreciates. Ethan then comes outside, and says he wants to go home. Julie leaves with her brother, and tells Elgin that it was nice meeting him.[4]

Elgin walks into the Church and finds Sara sitting alone. After revealing he was on the bus, he asks how long she has been in Town. Sara says only a few months, but it feels like much longer. Elgin asks if she lives in Town or Colony House, and she answers that she lives in the Church now. Elgin remarks that he would have thought a priest lived in the Church, and Sara sadly responds that there used to be one. Elgin explains that he goes every Sunday with his grandmother, and Sara asks if he was on his way to see her. Elgin says he was, and fondly talks about how he goes with her to church because it made her happy, as well as her habit of crocheting owls and only owls afterwards. Sara reminisces about the ceramic Christmas ornaments she and Nathan used to paint as children, of which there is only one in Town. Elgin asks if her brother is with her, and she answers that he was.

Elgin then asks what happened to the ornament, and Sara answers that she believes that the person who has it won’t want to return it. Elgin jokingly offers to provide some muscle for her, before asking why she doesn’t stay at Colony House instead of an old Church. Sara explains that she always liked the idea of being forgiven for whatever you did if you were truly sorry. Elgin believed that always seemed like wishful thinking. He asks Sara if she’s done something that needs forgiving. Sara reveals that she killed her brother. Elgin, shocked, asks if it was an accident. Sara says he will find out everything soon, and he uncomfortably leaves. As he does, Sara says it was nice to meet him, and he hesitatingly returns the sentiment.

Later, Kenny Liu sees Sara exiting the Diner with a box of her belongings. Kenny confronts her for going near his mother. He knocks her box to the ground and when she picks up the ornament, he shatters it on the ground. Sara picks up the shards of the ornament and Elgin helps her pick up her belongings before she runs off.[5]

Due to the arrival of the bus passengers, the food supply is stretched thin. Dale accuses Elgin of sneaking food out of the pantry. Elgin denies this and says he was taking extra food out of his backpack. Ellis arrives and asks what is going on, and Dale repeats his accusation, adding that it is bad enough that the storm wiped out their crops. Ellis denies this, but Dale says he saw what they loaded on the truck. Dale continues to complain about how the radio tower didn’t work, they have so many people they’re running out of food, and Ellis, Fatima and Donna are concealing the fact to prevent panic. Fatima tries to reply but Dale rudely tells her to shut up, angering Ellis. Dale says that they can’t have new people stealing their limited food supply, and insists that they leave. Dale then brandishes the knife he was using to chop vegetables at Elgin and Bakta. Ellis tries to restrain him, but as Dale turns he accidentally stabs Ellis in the side. Fatima and Bakta help him to a couch, while Clara fetches them towels and they attempt to put pressure on the wound.

With Ellis in bad condition, Fatima decides to transport Ellis to the Clinic in the van. Fatima then calls Elgin over for help, and he helps Fatima get Ellis up and they walk to the door, but Matthias reports that a Creature is coming up the hill and is about 50 yards away. Elgin makes a run for the van, and is spotted by two Creatures. After finding the keys, he drives to the front of Colony House and ushers Fatima and Ellis inside as Creatures begin to surround them. As Elgin drives them to the Clinic, Ellis begins to struggle to breathe. They arrive at the Clinic and are let inside by Kristi and Marielle. Fatima and Elgin explain what happened, and Kristi calls Boyd and Kenny upstairs as she begins tending to him. Marielle tries to help, but Kristi is resistant but tells her where the saline is. Kristi is able to temporarily stabilize Ellis. Meanwhile, Fatima, Boyd and Elgin nervously wait in the next room. Boyd calms a panicking Fatima and asks Elgin if he is ok, and Elgin explains that he isn’t good around blood.

Kristi arrives and says she was able to relieve the pressure in his chest, but due to the blood loss he needs a transfusion. Boyd says Ellis’ blood type is O negative, and Kristi plans on using Boyd for a transfusion, but Boyd refuses, fearing that whatever is inside of him will then transfer to his son. Fatima tries to convince him but Boyd adamantly refuses. Kenny then points a gun at Boyd and tries to force him to provide his blood. Boyd then begins writhing in pain, and Marielle sees the worms and alerts the others to their presence. Kenny retrieves a knife and tells Boyd to transfer the worms to him so he can do the transfusion, and they can figure out the rest later. Boyd refuses to risk it, describing it as a nightmare happening under his skin that is only getting stronger.. Boyd has an idea, and runs outside where he confronts the Smiley Creature. Boyd cuts his own hand, then Smiley's throat, to no effect. Boyd puts his wound to Smiley's neck, and the worms leave Boyd's body and enter Smiley's, killing the Creature. Boyd then runs back inside, and they successfully perform the transfusion.[6]

Before they leave the Clinic, Boyd checks on Elgin to make sure he is alright, and tells everyone to keep quiet about what happened until they learn more. Later, he and Julie run into each other on the Colony House porch, and she joins him for a walk. As they walk to Town, Elgin tells Julie about what happened at the Clinic with Smiley, swearing her to secrecy. Julie encouraged by the news that they can hurt and kill the Creatures. However, Elgin explains that he feels like there is something he is supposed to remember from his dream on the bus when they arrived, and seeing Smiley’s body reminded him but he still can’t remember it. Julie sympathizes, and remarks that there is always some new insane thing that comes along, and they all go through it. Elgin comments that she seems to be weathering it well. Julie reveals that she does have a trick to deal- she draws a bath and sinks her head in until the water is level with her ears. The sound reminds her of the ocean, and she meditates in peace.

That night, Elgin runs a bath and tries to follow Julie’s advice. However, he hears the music box which appears nearby. Elgin is then pushed underwater by a terrifying  corpse-like figure who holds him down.[7]

Elgin's drowning turns out to only be a dream, but when he is shaken awake he spits out water. Boyd goes to check on Elgin, who he finds crocheting. Elgin explains that in his dream, he was in the bathtub but something pushed him underwater. When someone shook him awake, he started spitting up water. Elgin asks how that is possible, and Boyd asks if Elgin told anyone about what happened at the Clinic. Elgin answers he hasn’t, and Boyd says that they pulled something out of Smiley that they think they can be used as a poison. Elgin suggests dipping his bullets in the bile.[8]

Reggie arrives at Colony House, where explains to everyone what happened to Paula and searches for Donna. Fatima says that she isn’t inside, and Kristi adds that she last saw her at the Clinic hours ago, and she was supposed to go to the house after. Reggie worries that they are all going to die, and Fatima steps up and tells him to relay Boyd’s instructions. Reggie says that no one can go to sleep, and Fatima steps up and says they will focus on following instructions while Boyd and Donna get themselves sorted. Fatima takes Reggie to change his clothes and tells everyone to partner up to make sure they don’t fall asleep. Later that night, Reggie runs around in a panic shaking people, telling them not to go to sleep and that nothing can protect them. Ellis and Fatima try to calm him down, but Reggie pushes Ellis down. Elgin restrains him as Fatima tries in vain to calm him as Reggie tells everyone that they are all going to die. Ellis orders Elgin to bring Reggie upstairs, and Elgin drags the screaming Reggie upstairs.

Elgin teaches Tillie how to crochet  when Fatima arrives. Tillie compliments Fatima on her leadership, and tells her that she will be a great mother. Fatima and Elgin are shocked, and Tillie explains that she has multiple children and grandchildren, and can spot an expecting mother. Fatima asks a crestfallen Elgin what is wrong, and he answers that he just remembered his dream. Shortly afterwards, Donna and Boyd arrive as Marielle is possessed by The Musicbox Monster. Ellis brings his father to Elgin. Elgin explains that Fatima's pregnancy made him remember the missing portion of his dream. Boyd is shocked but tells him to continue. Elgin says there was a Boy in White who kept repeating the same phrase: here they come, they come for three, unless you stop the melody. Bakta says it’s an old nursery rhyme that she remembers from her grandmother, and recites in its entirety: They touch, they break, they steal, no one here is free. Here they come, they come for three, unless you stop the melody. Boyd then realizes that he has heard portions of the rhyme before.[9]

The next morning, Donna leads Dale and Elgin in search of Randall, assuming they will find his corpse. Dale says that they should gather their supplies and venture out as a group. Donna points out that Boyd tried that already as Dale continues to complain about “corpse collecting duty.” As they search for the body, Donna thanks Elgin for joining them, and he says he just wanted to feel useful. Donna tells him that his dream might be the key to solving their predicament. Dale quickly finds Randall’s body, which is comatose like Mari and Julie, and notices that there are no dead monsters. When the three move to pick up the body, Randall begins screaming. Boyd is eventually able to save everyone by destroying the music box in the Dungeon.[10]

Season 3[]

Despite the Music Box Monster's defeat, Elgin is observed walking around dazed and exhausted, even three days after the threat has passed. Later, an exhausted Elgin dozes off while crocheting with Tillie, who tells him he needs rest. Elgin says the issue is not the Music Box Monster, but this feeling that something watches him but he cannot remember when he wakes up. Tillie asks if it is the mummified and bloody Kimono Woman apparition in the hallway that only they can see. Elgin then wakes up on the couch alone and terrified.[11]

Elgin naps on a couch upstairs near a large window. After Tillie tries doing a tarot reading for Fatima, a crow slams into the window, breaking through it and flying about until it slams into a wall, killing itself. The commotion wakes up Elgin, who is terrified.[12]

Afterwards, Nicky and Bakta argue over who will clean up the remains of the crow that flew through the window. Bakta refuses to touch the dead bird, and scolds Tillie for trying to do tarot readings in the Township. Donna breaks up the fight and checks on Elgin, who insists that he is fine. That night, Tillie tells Elgin that she feels bad for Fatima, and believes that the bird was a sign. Elgin then sees the Kimono Woman, and asks if he is awake, much to Tillie’s confusion. Elgin follows her to the hallway, where she asks for help before disappearing.[13]

While everyone else goes to the town meeting in the diner to discuss Tabitha Matthews' return, Elgin stays behind. When Julie Matthews arrives, he does not realize it is her and almost hits her with a fireplace shovel. Admitting that he is not okay, Julie invites him to keep her company. As Elgin and Julie smoke, Elgin explains the visions of the Kimono Woman, who now appears when he is awake and asked for his help. Elgin muses that his mother would say it was an angel. Julie confesses that she would prefer the Kimono Woman over what she hears in her head, which is mostly screaming, but the weed quiets it. Elgin asks if she’s talked to her parents, and Julie says they are too busy trying to figure out what happened to her mother. Julie admits that she does not believe it significant, and that the only reason the place exists, or let Tabitha out in the first place, is to make them all suffer. Elgin remarks that she is depressing when stoned and the two begin to laugh. In the Colony House basement, Julie and Elgin sort through the vintage clothing kept there, joking about people in the 80s fleeing the Creatures in fluorescent spandex and large hairdos. The two try on old clothes and find a polaroid camera. The two take pictures of each other and goof around.[14]

As Fatima comes down the stairs, Elgin takes her picture with the polaroid camera, surprising her. Elgin explains that he is trying to put together a Colony House photo album. Later that day, Elgin hangs the polaroids on a cord. As he looks at Fatima’s, he notices the Kimono Woman appear in the photograph. The Kimono Woman then appears next to him, grabbing him and telling him to help her, as she can save him everyone else. Clara arrives, and finding Elgin looking shaken, asks if he is alright. He answers that he is fine, and she compliments the collage.[15]

Tillie and Elgin discuss a gift that Elgin has made for Fatima. After Tillie leaves, the polaroid camera spontaneously prints a photo, disturbing Elgin. At the Root Cellar, Elgin examines the photo that printed spontaneously, which is of the Root Cellar doors. Elgin descends inside, and finds the doors in the back, which lead to an empty cabinet. After Elgin closes the cabinet doors, he hears knocking. He moves the cabinet and finds a secret room containing an overturned cot. Elgin resets the bed and pulls a blanket off a decayed skeleton, which horrifies him. The Kimono Woman appears, and Elgin turns and asks if this is really where it happens.[16]

Elgin overhears the discovery of Tillie's body in the greenhouse, and the polaroid camera spontaneously prints another photo. Elgin goes to the Clinic and finds Randall. Elgin asks for a bandaid, and the two briefly discuss Tillie before Randall apologizes for being a jerk to Elgin the day they arrived. Elgin apologizes for vomiting on him. Once Randall leaves, Elgin grabs a blood transfusion kit. In a Colony House bathroom, Elgin prepares to fill several bottles with his own blood using the transfusion kit he stole earlier. The camera prints another picture. Elgin finds the shack in the woods, matching it to the photo printed by the camera, and approaches Fatima. He leads her to the Root Cellar, telling her that Ellis is waiting. Once inside, Elgin leads her to the room in the back. After realizing that Ellis is not there, she tries to leave but Elgin blocks her path, telling her that it is the only place the baby will be safe. Fatima says there is no baby, but Elgin says there is, but it does not belong to Fatima. Fatima tries to escape but doubles over in pain. She tries crawling away but Elgin drags her back inside as she calls for help.[17]

Elgin returns to the cellar with things to make Fatima more comfortable. Fatima begs him to let her go. Elgin replies that she is not a prisoner, and he is trying to protect her. Fatima says that she saw the Kimono Woman, and whatever is inside her is not good, citing Tillie’s death as evidence. Elgin simply says that it was because the baby was scared and Fatima was not feeding it. Fatima tries to leave but is overwhelmed by pain. Elgin helps her to the bed and urges her to eat, and soon they will all be able to go home. Elgin tells her that the baby already helped them, as finding out she was pregnant allowed Elgin to remember his dream, which led to Boyd saving the Town from the Music Box Monster. Despite initially protesting, Fatima eventually allows Elgin to feed her the jarred blood. The next morning, Elgin returns to the Root Cellar. Elgin is happy to see that Fatima's pregnancy is progressing. She asks to be helped up and cuts his arm, trying to run away, but Elgin is able to grab her and keep her from escaping.

Outside the Diner, Boyd and Donna assemble everyone. Donna acknowledges that everyone is scared and wants answers about what happened to Tillie. Boyd then reveals that Fatima is missing, and they ask everyone to help with the search. One person asks if the same thing that took her is what killed Tillie. Boyd admits he does not know, and only knows that she is close. When asked how he knows this, Boyd says it is because something wants them to know she is close, is alone, afraid, and it believes they do not have what it takes to find her. Boyd says he cannot order them to do anything, but reminds them that they did not always have the Talismans and used to live day to day. The Talismans allowed them to prove that the Township would not break them. The Township is trying to break them again, and Boyd says they have the choice of laying down and dying, or fighting back. They have proven themselves able before, and he asks for their help again, although there is no shame in refusing. Batka asks how they will do this, and Boyd says they will pair up in groups of two and cover every inch. Elgin finds Ellis, and offers to search with him, which Ellis appreciates.

As Ellis and Elgin search, Elgin recalls how a friend of his went missing when he was a child. He was scared, but his grandmother told him not to worry. His friend was later found happy on a playground on the other side of town. Ellis snaps and asks if he thinks that everyone is scared for nothing. Elgin tries to explain that sometimes they assume the worst without knowing, but Ellis reminds him that all they know is his wife is missing. Ellis reveals that he has already lost his mother, surprising Elgin, and he cannot lose Fatima and go through it again.

Ellis and Elgin arrive at the Brundles, and Elgin recalls that Fatima brought him here as his proxy. He then apologizes to Ellis for what happened to Abby, but Ellis brushes it off. Elgin assures him that Fatima will be alright, but Ellis tells him to stop. Elgin reveals that on the Bus, he had a dream and since then, he has felt like something has been trying to talk to him. Elgin theorizes that everything might be happening for a reason, and Fatima might be out there doing something helpful, adding that the baby might be a good thing. Ellis is confused, and asks why this has anything to do with the baby. Elgin says that they do not have all the information, and does not want Ellis to be afraid.[18]

As Elgin prepares to leave Colony House, he finds his way blocked by Boyd, Donna and Sara. Boyd asks if they can talk for a bit, and Elgin agrees. Donna leads him to her room. While Kenny stands watch outside, Boyd begins interrogating Elgin, noting the supplies in his bag. Boyd bluntly asks Elgin if he knows where Fatima is. Elgin explains that he was told not to say anything, but he is not trying to hurt anyone, and what is happening is a good thing. Donna asks who is communicating with him. Elgin answers that he believes it is an angel, and something is happening that is beyond their understanding, comparing it to the Bible, and the need to have faith even in the face of adversity. Boyd tells him that there is no baby, as Kristi and Mari performed an ultrasound and found nothing, and whatever is growing inside her is not good. Elgin replies that the angel explained it to him. Sara reminds Elgin that she previously told him that she killed her brother. She explains that she did this trying to kill Ethan at the behest of mysterious voices who told her it would allow them to go home. Sara tries to make him realize that the Township does not help them, but Elgin says that this is different. Ellis grows angry, and points out that Elgin does not know anything for a certainty. Donna reminds Elgin that even if the baby allows them to go home, its birth is months away, and Elgin reveals that the fetus has grown. Ellis attacks Elgin, but is restrained by Boyd and Kenny, and the group moves outside the room.

Boyd returns to the room with a bag of tools as Elgin continues to refuse to reveal Fatima's whereabouts. Resigned, Boyd says he is doing what he needs to do, just as Boyd is about to. As Boyd retrieves a hammer, the polaroid camera flashes and prints a picture. Elgin reveals that is how the Kimono Woman communicates with him, and she likely wants to talk with Boyd. Boyd examines the picture, which is of a house. Elgin asks what was in the  picture as Boyd ties him to the chair. Boyd says it was a picture of the house he and his wife bought when they were discharged from the military. Elgin tells him that the Kimono Woman is trying to show him that it means they are going home. As Boyd lays the tools out on the table, Elgin nervously reminds him that he would never hurt him, and everything he is doing is for them. Boyd  orders Elgin to tell him where Fatima is, or he will hurt him. Boyd asks Elgin where Fatima is and when Elgin does not answer, Boyd smashes Elgin’s hand with a hammer. Acosta arrives, followed by the rest of the group, and she demands to know what is happening, Boyd orders them all downstairs.

Sara sneaks off and returns to Elgin, who says he cannot tell her. Sara understands, and reveals that she thought Elgin was kind and sweet, but her heart broke for him when he first arrived, as the Township looks for people like them. Elgin insists that he is doing the right thing, and begs to be let go. Sara tells Elgin that Boyd does not understand how far he has to go to get answers from Elgin. She continues to say that Boyd is a good man, and the Township has taken so much from, but she will not let it take his soul, as it has with her, approaching him with a screwdriver. She proceeds to gouge out Elgin's eye. When Boyd and the rest arrive after hearing Elgin's screams, Sara tells them Fatima is in the Root Cellar.[19]
