Biography[]

Background[]

After his parents retired from military service, Ellis and his parents went on a roadtrip. As they drive and listen to “If I Had a Boat” by Lyle Lovett, Boyd muses about how peaceful the song sounds and how nice it would be to have a boat. Abby tells him that they still cannot afford a boat, but Boyd believes they can manage it. Abby and Ellis tease Boyd, but Boyd recalls his nickname from the army, “Mr. Fish and Loaves,” and his logistical expertise. Ellis points out that his mother’s nickname was “Iron Abby,” which she tells him not to forget. As Boyd continues to talk about the boat, Abby looks through her bag and asks Boyd to hold something. Boyd takes the object and realizes that it’s a boat key, and realizes they bought him a boat, delighting him. However, Ellis interrupts their celebration to stop Boyd from hitting the Fallen Tree on the road. Boyd exits the car, and hears the sound of crows.

The Stevens family drives through Town, grimly noting the “SAVE US” sign painted on the Barn. Boyd asks where all the people are when Father Khatri runs in front of the car, shocking them. Khatri begins to explain their predicament, but tells them that there isn’t a lot of time and they need to get to safety. Abby tells Boyd to drive away but before he can they hear an inhuman screech. This convinces them to follow Khatri, who leads them to an underground location where Donna and Dale are also sheltering for the night. Donna tells Abby she can put the gun away, as the only things that will hurt her are outside, and the gun will be useless against them. Khatri says he understands they have questions, but they can talk in the morning. They hear footsteps and screams up above as the Creatures find and kill one of the people.

Boyd emerges from the hiding place the next morning, and finds maimed corpses in the street. Khatri sympathizes with them, and promises to explain more at the Diner. Abby asks Ellis if he is ok, and he answers that he is not. In the Diner, Khatri finishes his explanation of their predicament, and Boyd is shocked that their solution is to hide and pray every night. Abby asks if they know anything about the Town, and Khatri says that they know what they see, and that everyone is just trying to live through the night. Boyd says that they need to start working together and taking care of each other. Khatri and Donna are interested, and ask where they can start. Boyd organizes their supplies to be rationed, and puts Donna in charge of doling them out. Abby draws up a system for where they hide during the night, and Boyd says that they will be constantly rotating to avoid being caught by the Creatures. As time goes on, Ellis catches his mother observing the Town, and asks if she is ok. Abby says that she’s remembering an old dream from when she was a child, and tells Ellis to help his father.

Boyd returns to Town with  a goat, shocking Father Khatri. Boyd explains he found it in the forest, as well as some chickens. Ellis arrives and asks to talk to Boyd. Boyd hands the goat off to Khatri, and begins musing about what else he might find in the woods. Ellis tells him that he needs to stop going out into the forest and tend to Abby, who is not doing well. Ellis says he believes that things are starting to get to her, which Boyd is not seeing because he is so busy. Boyd says he understands that he is scared but points out that what they are doing is working, and the second they stop looking for answers, they lose. Ellis tells him to find someone else to do it because they need him present. Ellis tries to explain but Boyd tries to assure his son that his mother is as tough as can be, reminding him of her nickname: Iron Abby. He says that he knows that this is hard but it is what they have to do. Ellis gets angry, and says that Boyd is not really listening to him. Boyd says that there are 4 hours of daylight left, and promises that they will talk that night. Ellis begs him to stay, but Boyd promises that they will talk during the night. However, Boyd gets stuck in the forest overnight.

Boyd emerges from the forest the next morning carrying a large number of Talismans with him when he hears gunshots. Boyd runs towards Town, where Abby is shooting randomly into the crowd. Boyd asks her what is happening as she continues shooting people. She aims at Donna, who asks her why she is doing this, and Abby answers that it isn’t real and they are in a nightmare, and the only way to escape is to wake up. Abby says it will be okay, because it is impossible to die in dreams. Boyd draws on his wife, who turns to him and says that it is impossible that he survived out in the forest after dark if their situation was real. Abby insists that they have to wake everyone up, and she begins singing “If I Had a Boat.” Ellis then come running up, and Abby begins to aim at him, prompting Boyd to shoot her to save their son.[1]

Season 1[]

As sunset begins, Sheriff Boyd Stevens goes through Town ringing a bell to signal everyone to get to their homes before dark. Before he turns in for the night, Boyd watches his son and the other residents of Colony House get inside. That night, Lauren Pratt and her daughter Meagan are killed by the Creatures. The next morning, Boyd visits Colony House to see his son. In his room, Ellis sketches Fatima, who is modeling for him. He praises her beauty when Boyd walks in, and Fatima enthusiastically greets him before leaving him alone with his son. Ellis sullenly asks his father why he’s come and Boyd explains the deaths of the Pratt women. An irritated Boyd tells Ellis that he should come to the funeral service before leaving.

During the funeral for the Pratts, the Matthews family arrives in an RV, asking where they can find the highway. Boyd tells them to keep going straight. However, they realize they are stuck in a loop and try to go the opposite direction, and get in a crash with another car that entered the Town. Boyd, Kenny, Kristi, Father Khatri and Ellis rush to help the passengers of the two vehicles. Boyd cuffs one of the passengers, who is clearly intoxicated, to the car door. At the RV, they successfully retrieve everyone safely except for the young Ethan Matthews, whose leg was impaled by a metal table leg. With only 40 minutes until dark, and an operation to perform that would take at least an hour, they decide that Boyd, Kristi and Ethan's father Jim will stay in the RV overnight with a talisman, while Kenny, Ellis and Father Khatri will take Julie and Tabitha back to town on the truck. Ellis warns his father that his plan is suicide. Boyd tells him to get the family to safety, and to cut the guy cuffed to the car loose if he causes trouble.

Kenny drives them back to Town in the truck. However, he forgets about the spike strip he had laid earlier and the tires are punctured. With night fast approaching, Ellis decides to lead them on foot to Colony House, the closest shelter available.[2]

Ellis and Kenny lead their group to Colony House, but they struggle through the heavy rains and night has fallen. Father Khatri, who is carrying an unconscious Jade, falls, and Kenny helps him up. However, the people inside the house sound the alarm and arm themselves. As Ellis pounds on the door, Fatima tries to let them inside, but the guard doesn’t believe that it’s really them. As the Creatures approach, Donna arrives and grants them entry just in the nick of time. However, she orders that Tabitha and Julie be tied up, as per protocol, much to their distress.

As they get settled, Ellis ties Jade to a bed, while Trudy asks about the cars. After Ellis stops Trudy from stealing Jade's watch, she remarks that he’s attractive. Before he leaves, he has her promise not to touch anything, though she stays just to look at him. Downstairs, Ellis comes across Kenny complaining to Father Khatri about the fact that the Matthews girls got tied up. He informs the two that there's a room made up for them, but Kenny sarcastically asks if they'll be tied up first. Khatri thanks him and asks about Jade, and Ellis says he's still knocked out from the drugs he was on. Ellis apologizes for Donna's abrasiveness, but points out that they opened the door. After Kenny sullenly answers "eventually", Ellis blames him for forgetting about the spike strip and the two begin arguing until Khatri diffuses the situation. Before leaving, Ellis leaves the two a bottle of moonshine.

Ellis returns to his room upstairs and takes off his shirt before noticing Julie sitting on the couch. Ellis awkwardly redresses and the two introduce themselves. Ellis asks if she's been able to see her mother yet, and she answers no, but compliments his artwork. The next morning, they reunite with the group from the RV, who made it through the night. However, en route back to Town, they find that the Clinic door was left open, and Kenny's father was killed.[3]

Ellis and Donna Raines explain the situation to Jade Herrera after he wakes up. Jade believes that it is all an elaborate escape room-like ruse that Tobey is putting on for him and that Donna and Ellis are paid actors, leaving Donna and Ellis stunned, but Donna lets him wander. Ellis later makes a crutch for Ethan to help him get around while he recovers. A sullen Julie asks Fatima why are they are helping her family, and Fatima answers that it is just what they do. That night, Julie joins Colony House, and everyone raises a glass to her.[4]

The next day, Fatima and Ellis surprise Julie, who is struggling to adjust, with a new bed, telling her that there are no mistakes, only choices, delighting her. Fatima then gives her the sweater her mother had brought earlier.[5]

As Julie Matthews continues to struggle with her new reality, making a list of the people who are missing her, Fatima decides that Julie needs some fun, and tells her to meet her downstairs in five minutes. Fatima then tells Ellis that Julie is making a list, and they should show her the Brundles. In the woods near Colony House, Ellis and Fatima lead Julie to the Brundles, a small lake where the residents have built a dock and added toys. Julie is shocked to see the happy, normal atmosphere the place has. Fatima remarks that it’s like being anywhere else in the world, prompting Julie to ask how Fatima remains positive. Fatima then explains that she grew up in Iran until she was 11, with an outspoken cleric for a father. On one of her birthdays, men came for her father and her mother instructed her to hide. Her father was dragged outside the house and shot. Fatima concludes that there will always be monsters in the world wherever you are, and that she promised herself that she would not allow them to scare the life out of her. Ellis then returns from the water, and says that Fatima looks too dry, picking her up and carrying her to the water. As Julie, Fatima and Ellis return from the Brundles, Ethan comes running up crying for his sister, revealing that Sara Myers had attempted to kill him and killed her brother Nathan in the process.[6]

Ellis observes the residents of Colony House hang decorations in preparation of the anniversary party of Fatima's arrival. He goes upstairs and finds Fatima and Julie and asks if they want to pregame, both decline, and Fatima tells him to go easy. Ellis teases them both and leaves calling for Victor. Downstairs, Ellis tells an uninterested Victor that he of all people should get drunk, considering how long he has been trapped in the Town. Victor asks to be left alone before Donna arrives. Ellis offers her a shot before leaving. That night, the party enters full swing while Ellis drunkenly stumbles through the crowd. Fatima tells him to slow down but he insists that he is fine. Donna then gives a heartfelt speech praising Fatima and gifts her a dreamcatcher. Everyone then raises a glass to Fatima. Afterwards, Stacey kisses Fatima, and Julie awkwardly stares. Later, a drunk Dale talks to Stacey about the number of dimensions there are, and the differences in theories. Stacey asks if they are in another dimension, and Dale answers that they are in a pocket universe. Ellis rudely tells him that no one cares and to shut up. Ellis begins to pick a fight but Fatima defuses it. However, Dale tells her to get Ellis upstairs before he starts shooting up the place. But Fatima and Donna restrain him before he can hit Dale. Fatima asks Ellis if he is ok, and he apologizes and goes to lie down in his room, telling her to stay and celebrate her night.

After the Creatures break in, someone rings the alarm bell, waking Ellis up while chaos ensues. Ellis sneaks through the halls while the Smiley Creature walks around. Seeing Fatima’s sweater on a bloody corpse, Ellis approaches the body believing it to be hers and finds it is Trudy. However, he is discovered by one of the Creatures. Ellis breaks the window, climbs onto the roof of the porch and jumps off. Fatima finds him and helps him inside. She then shuts the doors to the foyer in the hope that the Talisman will protect the room. Her idea works, and the Creatures knock on the doors and taunt her. Ellis asks her how she knew that would work, and Fatima tearfully admits that it was a guess based on his father’s experience in the RV. Ellis apologizes to Fatima, and the two say they love each other.[7]

The next day, Kristi sets Ellis’s arm in the Clinic. Fatima asks if she can help, and Kristi tells her to make sure Ellis does not leave the bed until Kristi can do a final checkup. Boyd later approaches Ellis and Fatima in the Clinic, and informs them that he is going to be leaving to try and find a way out. Ellis grimly remarks that he is going off into the forest with no idea what he is looking for, which worked well the last time. Boyd asks Fatima to excuse them and when she does, Boyd tells Ellis that he can be angry with or hate him, but he will listen to what he has to say. Boyd says that if he does not make it back, he does not want Ellis to regret what he did not say. Boyd says that Ellis is his son, that he loves him and is proud of the man he has become, adding that there is not a single day where that is not true. Ellis responds “ok” and Boyd leaves. After Boyd leaves, Fatima returns to Ellis’s bedside and says that she will say something that may make him hate her, but she is ok with that. She tells him that what happened was neither his nor Boyd’s fault, but the fault of the Town. While Fatima may not have been there, she knows that if there was anything else he could have done, he would have. She acknowledges that what happened filled Ellis with rage and made him inconsolable, and he directed that rage at his father, which his father accepted, because that is what parents do. Fatima asks Ellis if he has ever thought about what that day was like for Boyd, and what he has carried with him ever since. Fatima tells him that if he does not get up and go after his father now, he will regret it for the rest of his life.

Boyd arrives at the shack in the forest when Ellis catches up to him. Ellis admits that he has been following him trying to find the courage to say something. Ellis explains that during the Colony House attack, they would have died if not for the Talisman on the door. Ellis confesses that he has been angry for such a long time, and didn’t know how to deal with it, but had Boyd not brought the Talismans back, and struggles to finish the thought. Ellis tells Boyd that Abby’s actions were not his fault and apologizes, and the two begin crying and hug each other. Ellis says that he did not want to let Boyd leave without saying goodbye. Boyd tells him that this is not good bye, and Ellis notices Sara watching them. Ellis asks what she is doing and Boyd tries to explain that he needs her for his journey, offering to explain everything when he returns, asking Ellis to trust him and not reveal that Sara is with him. Ellis agrees, and tells Boyd to come back. The two say they love each other before Ellis leaves. Ellis then finds Fatima, who asks him if he found his father. Ellis answers that he did, and Fatima asks if he is ok. Ellis admits that he is not, and she hugs him.[1]

After Eric commits suicide, Ellis finds Fatima. The two talk about Eric, and Ellis says would not have predicted it. Fatima says that the idea that the radio tower might work is more frightening than the idea it won’t. Ellis asks her to elaborate, and she asks how they return to normal life after everything they have seen and done. She further says that they aren’t the same people anymore, and can never truly come home. Ellis recalls that when his father returned from Afghanistan, he said that coming from home from war is like traveling from another planet, and you can’t tell if everything is different than you left it or if you are the one that has changed. Fatima asks what it will be like for them in the normal world, because they’ve only known each other in the Town. Fatima leaves before Ellis can answer. In Colony House, Ellis finds a frustrated Jim trying to figure out how to power the radio tower. Ellis informs him that they have enough wire for the cord now, but he asks if they are making enough progress. Jim says that they have setbacks, but they will figure it out.[8]

As people work on connecting wires to the lamps in Colony House, Ellis finds Fatima and asks to speak with her privately, saying it’s urgent. Ellis leads her to the spot where he first saw her, driving around lost for hours. Ellis explains that he has been thinking a lot about what she said about going home. He says that he does not remember who he was before her, and does not want to find out who he will be without her. Ellis gets down on one knee and calling her the love of his life and his home, proposes to her. Fatima agrees, and Ellis gives her a makeshift wire ring, which the two laugh over. Fatima tells him that Boyd will be very happy, and kisses him. Later, the Radio Tower is hoisted onto the roof. Jim and Ethan operate the radio, and Jim tries to broadcast a mayday as the storm draws closer. Donna warns that they have ten minutes before the wind blows the tower off the roof. Jim sends Ethan inside and Donna takes his place changing the frequency. Jim eventually runs off, while inside the lightbulbs begin exploding, causing chaos.[9]

Season 2[]

At Colony House, chaos reigns as the lightbulbs continue exploding, one of them hitting Clara in the eye, and Kristi tends to her. Julie asks Donna why her father ran off, but Donna cannot orders the kids to go upstairs. Fatima leads Ethan upstairs, but the wind blows the winch through one of the windows, and Julie takes the opportunity to run after her father, with Ellis running after her.

Julie and Ellis arrive in Town, with Tom meeting them. While Julie runs to her house, Ellis and Tom approach the bus passengers and tell them that more people will be down to help them and unlock the Diner. Bakta replies that they aren’t making a pit stop, and she simply needs a mop. Julie rushes down to the basement and finds her father standing over the filled-in hole and asks what happened. Julie then asks where her mother is and begins to panic, and Jim tells her to get as many people as possible to help. As she stares at the hole, Jim hugs his daughter and tells her she needs to be strong, and that her mother needs her. Julie leaves and tells Ellis that her mother is trapped in the basement. With Ellis’s arm broken, Tom asks for volunteers to help get Tabitha out. Brick and Randall volunteer, but Bakta says that they need to stay with the bus and that emergency services will handle it, prompting Randall to sarcastically call her a peach. Ellis stops Julie from following Tom into the her house, explaining that they can’t focus on her mother if they’re worried about her.

Donna Raines and Kenny Liu soon arrive, but the Matthews' house collapses. Randall is able to escape unscathed, but Jim Matthews, Tom and Brick are trapped in the rubble. With the sun setting, Donna struggles to control the situation and work to free Jim and the others, while also convincing the busload of passengers to get indoors before nightfall. As Ellis, Fatima and Kenny try to explain to the disbelieving bus passengers, Donna gets a shotgun from the van and shoots out the bus’s tires. Several passengers run away, and Fatima tries to run after them. Kenny fires his pistol into the air, and herds many of the passengers into the Diner. Julie covers some of the rubble with tarps, with the three trapped men hoping to wait out the night.[10]

Outside the Sheriff’s Office, Fatima tries to call out to the bus passengers to hide and be quiet, and Ellis gets her inside just as two Creatures round the corner. After they shut the door behind them, one of the Creatures says that they are spoiling all the fun. Fatima then sees two of the bus passengers emerge from their hiding place. She tries in vain to warn them. Ellis drags her away from the window as she sees them get surrounded by Creatures. Fatima continues to try and find a way to help them but Ellis tells her there is nothing they can do as they hear the screams of the passengers. Fatima returns to the door and begins shouting at the Creatures outside, who tell her that she will feel better if she comes outside. Fatima begins crying and saying she can’t do this anymore and collapses into Ellis’s arms.[11]

After returning to Town, Boyd tells Ellis about going into the Farway Tree. Ellis asks him where Sara is, and whether she is alive. Boyd says he does not know, and Ellis continues to struggle with the idea of teleportation via tree. An increasingly irate Ellis asks if he is hiding something, reminding him that he went out to find answers but instead came back and they are right where they started. Boyd asks him what is going on, and Ellis calms down and explains that things were bad the previous night and it affected Fatima. Ellis worries that he is seeing Fatima slip away. Boyd tells him that Ellis has to be there for her so she has something to lean on, and that they will not let this place win. The two hug, and Ellis goes to help Kenny with the animal traps. Boyd tells him to get someone else to do it and go help Fatima, but Ellis says he was going to use it as an opportunity to gather some wildflowers that he knows she likes. Before he leaves, Boyd teases him about the ring, telling him to get a better one, and Ellis tells his father that he is glad that he’s back.

Out in the forest, Kenny checks the traps while Ellis gathers flowers. The traps are empty, and Kenny angrily asks for help. Ellis says he understands that Kenny is bent out of shape by the Kristi situation, but stops before he can say more. Kenny then asks for help in finding the iron rod that props up the trap. The two then hear music, and follow the sound until they find a phone playing music next to the body of a girl from the bus whose head is pinned to a tree by the iron rod Kenny was searching for. Ellis is shocked, while Kenny prepares to remove the body. Kelly then gasps for breath, shocking them. Kenny runs to get Kristi, while Ellis stays with Kelly, who asks Ellis for help.

Kelly tells Ellis that strangely, the metal rod in her head doesn’t hurt. Kelly and Ellis introduce themselves, and Kelly asks where they are. Ellis says they are in the woods outside Town. Kelly asks how they’re in the woods, and then flashes back to when her and Brian were in the Bar, and how the Creatures came in and killed Brian. Kelly explains that they dragged them out and made her watch as they killed him, and told her they wanted to play with her. Kenny arrives with Kristi, and Kelly asks her if it’s bad, and begins panicking. Kristi tells her to hold her hand while she looks at her wound. After examining Kelly, Kristi tells Kenny and Ellis that even if they were in a hospital, it would be a 15 hour operation. Ellis wants to try and free her, but Kristi think their only option is to mercy-kill her by pulling out the rod. Ellis asks if it will be peaceful, and Kristi says she doesn’t know. Kenny offers to shoot her, but Kristi does not want her final moments to be with a gun to her head. Kelly realizes that she is not going to be ok, and Kristi tells her that she is going to die.

Kelly asks for Ellis and Kenny. Kelly tells them that they are very nice, and asks for her phone so she can call her mother. Kristi tells her the phones don’t work, but offers to write a message down for her. Kelly suffices with that, and tells Kristi to tell her mother that she loves her, and apologize for not giving her a hug. Kelly explains that she was mad over something stupid so she left without giving her one. Kelly then begins screaming in pain, and they struggle to decide over who should pull the rod out to kill her when Boyd arrives. Boyd tells them that it’s his job to do it. While Kristi holds her hands, Boyd pulls the rod out, killing her. As Kenny and Ellis walk back to Town, Kenny tells Ellis that he is going to the Church to see if there is anything he can read at the service. Before he leaves, Ellis reminds him that this was the fault of the Creatures, not any of them. Ellis finds Fatima in the Diner sitting pensively by the window. Fatima tells Ellis to promise her that things won’t always be this way. Ellis suggests that they get married, not wanting the Town to be thing that decides whether or not they get married. Fatima happily agrees, delighting Ellis.[12]

Donna leads Ellis and the other residents in sorting their food supplies. As Dale brings the last of the potatoes, he remarks that he hopes Donna plans on bringing some of it back. Fatima asks if the boxes are ready to go, and rebuffs Ellis’ offer of help, and Dale asks them if there is trouble in paradise. Donna assures Fatima that they will be fine, so long as they keep their heads and stick to the rations. Donna leaves Ellis and Fatima in charge while she helps store the supplies at the Liu House, reminding them to keep cans on all the doors. Fatima asks what they should tell people about the food, and Donna says for now, they should just say they are working out a new system, so as to avoid a panic. Noticing that things are troubled between Ellis and Fatima, she asks if they will be alright, and Ellis promises they can do it. As the sun sets, Ellis leads the Colony House residents in preparing for the night by boarding up the windows and hanging alarms at all the doors. Ellis checks on Fatima, who continues to be cold to him, and asks if they are ok, but she insists they are fine.

Later, Ellis asks Fatima what is wrong, and says that his father asked him to promise not tell anyone about Sara. Fatima reminds him that they are getting married and cannot keep things from each other. She further adds that Boyd should not have put him in that position. Ellis says that his father didn’t have a choice, but Fatima says there is always a choice, and that he put people in danger by bringing her back to Town. Ellis agrees and apologizes, but realizes that her distress is not about his dad or Sara, and that ever since the night the bus arrived when they spent the night in the Sheriff’s Office, she has been different. Ellis asks what is going on, but they hear commotion downstairs.

They go downstairs to the kitchen and find Dale accusing Elgin of stealing food. Dale adds that it is bad enough that the storm wiped out their crops. Ellis denies this, but Dale says he saw what they loaded on the truck. Dale continues to complain about how the radio tower didn’t work, they have so many people they’re running out of food, and Ellis, Fatima and Donna are concealing the fact to prevent panic. Fatima tries to reply but Dale rudely tells her to shut up, angering Ellis. Dale says that they can’t have new people stealing their limited food supply, and insists that they leave. Dale then brandishes the knife he was using to chop vegetables at Elgin and Bakta. Ellis tries to restrain him, but as Dale turns he accidentally stabs Ellis in the side. Fatima and Bakta help him to a couch, while Clara fetches them towels and they attempt to put pressure on the wound.

Fatima and Bakta tend to Ellis, and Fatima says they will take him by van to the Clinic. Ellis says it is too dangerous, but Fatima says they have lookouts in all the windows and Clara reports that it looks like they’re all clear. Ellis says they can wait until morning, but Bakta gives Fatima a look indicating otherwise. Fatima then calls Elgin over for help, and he helps Fatima get Ellis up and they walk to the door, but Matthias reports that a Creature is coming up the hill and is about 50 yards away. Ellis says he can’t run, and Elgin leaves and tells them to meet him at the steps. Elgin makes a run for the van, and is spotted by two Creatures. After finding the keys, he drives to the front of Colony House and ushers Fatima and Ellis inside as Creatures begin to surround them. As Elgin drives them to the Clinic, Ellis begins to struggle to breathe.

They arrive at the Clinic and are let inside by Kristi and Marielle. Fatima and Elgin explain what happened, and Kristi calls Boyd and Kenny upstairs as she begins tending to him. Marielle tries to help, and Kristi is resistant but tells her where the saline is. Kristi figures out that there is blood in his chest cavity and makes an incision in his side to drain the blood. Meanwhile, Fatima, Boyd and Elgin nervously wait in the next room. Boyd calms a panicking Fatima and asks Elgin if he is ok, and Elgin explains that he isn’t good around blood. Kristi arrives and says she was able to relieve the pressure in his chest, but due to the blood loss he needs a transfusion. Boyd says Ellis’ blood type is O negative, and Kristi says they will use Boyd for a transfusion, but Boyd, fearing that whatever is inside of him will then transfer to his son. Boyd insists he is not crazy, but Fatima tries to tell him it can’t be worse than dying, but Boyd is adamantly against it. Kenny then points a gun at Boyd and tries to force him to provide his blood. Boyd then begins writhing in pain, and Marielle sees the worms and alerts the others to their presence. Fatima begs them to do something. Kenny retrieves a knife and tells Boyd to transfer the worms to him so he can do the transfusion, and they can figure out the rest later. Boyd refuses, explaining that there is a nightmare happening under his skin which is getting stronger and is not willing to risk passing it onto Kenny.

Boyd then has an idea and rushes outside. After calling out the Creatures, the Smiley Creature arrives. Boyd cuts his own hand and then Smiley's throat before pressing his wound to the Creatures'. The worms leave Boyd's body and transfer to Smiley's, and kill the Creature. Assured that he is no longer infected, Boyd returns to the Clinic, and Kristi performs the transfusion. After the successful transfusion, Kristi tells Boyd to lie down, but he promises that he is ok. Fatima watches over a recuperating Ellis, and Kristi asks how he’s breathing is. Ellis replies that he is fine, and Kristi promises to fetch new sheets. Ellis jokingly asks Fatima if she is still mad at him, and the two kiss. Fatima then leaves, promising to return.[13]

The next morning, everyone gathers to inspect Smiley's dead body. Kristi marvels at the fact that Boyd actually killed one of them, and Fatima asks what they should do with the body. Kenny says they should burn it, but Boyd and Kristi want to bring it inside and perform an autopsy to learn more about the Creatures. Kenny points out that they do not even know if it is safe to touch the Creature, and Boyd says that it’s Kristi’s call. Kristi decides to study it, and Mari offers to get a sheet so they can drag it inside. Boyd then tells Ellis to get back to Colony House to avoid having a crowd descend on the Clinic to check on him while they’re doing the autopsy. Kristi gives Ellis and Fatima the go ahead, telling them to return if he has any trouble breathing. Boyd then notices Elgin looking downcast and asks if he is ok, and Elgin says he is fine. Ellis tells his father to be careful as he leaves, while Boyd, Kristi and Mari prepare to bring the Creature into the Clinic. When Ellis and Fatima return to Colony House, Donna helps him up the stairs to his room.

Later, Julie is shocked to hear from a recuperating Ellis that Dale stabbed him. Ellis explains that things have been tense in Colony House, but both he and Fatima assure her that they are fine. Julie prepares to leave to let them rest, and is given a goodbye hug by Fatima. Julie says she misses them, Fatima returns the sentiment and Ellis says she is welcome any time, while Julie says they are welcome at the Liu house. As she exits, she almost runs into Donna, who is carrying a tray of food. Donna asks if she is leaving already, and Julie jokes that she has to make sure Ethan isn’t building a spaceship with Victor. After she leaves, Ellis says he thought they were in the midst of a food shortage, which Donna says is temporary and he needs to regain his strength. Donna apologizes for not being present when the incident happened, but Ellis tells her that Dale’s actions are not her fault. Donna praises Fatima for getting Ellis to the Clinic in time and leaves them.[14]

Boyd checks on his son to make sure he is recovering from his stab wound. Ellis assures him that he is healing well, Dale is locked in his room and all is well. Boyd notices Ellis is smiling, and Ellis explains that he has some news. Donna arrives asking for Boyd, and Ellis promises to tell him later.[15]

Reggie arrives at Colony House and explains to everyone what happened to Paula and searches for Donna. Fatima says that she isn’t inside, and Kristi adds that she last saw her at the Clinic hours ago, and she was supposed to go to the house afterwards. Reggie worries that they are all going to die, and Fatima steps up and tells him to relay Boyd’s instructions. Reggie says that no one can go to sleep, and Fatima steps up and says they will focus on following instructions while Boyd and Donna get themselves sorted. Fatima takes Reggie to change his clothes and tells everyone to partner up to make sure they don’t fall asleep. Bakta asks how long, and Fatima answers that they will figure that out later. Ellis, noticing Marielle’s worsening condition, asks Kristi if they are ok, and Kristi asks for a room, and he helps them upstairs.

Ellis leads Kristi and Mari to an empty bedroom. After Mari notices the braces on the bed, Ellis explains that it’s for people who freak out on their first night. Kristi and Ellis leave to get supplies for the night, and he asks whether not sleeping will affect his and Fatima’s baby. Kristi promises him that Fatima is not far enough along for that to be a concern. Ellis remarks how ordinarily this would be amazing, but he is constantly afraid because of the Township that something awful will happen. Kristi tells him that pregnancy is beautiful and weird wherever they are, they are simply used to it because they see it every day, much like the magic ball of fire. Kristi explains that it is an analogy from medical school to explain how even though they think they know much about the world, it’s still a mystery floating through space surrounding a ball of magic fire that keeps them warm from a million miles away. It’s weird, but they are used to it.

Later that night, Reggie runs around in a panic shaking people, telling them not to go to sleep and that nothing can protect them. Ellis and Fatima try to calm him down, but Reggie pushes Ellis down. Elgin restrains him as Fatima tries in vain to calm him as Reggie tells everyone that they are all going to die. Ellis orders Elgin to bring Reggie upstairs, and Elgin drags the screaming Reggie upstairs.

Shortly after his father, Donna and Jim Matthews return, Mari goes catatonic while her eyes glaze over. Kristi begins to break down but Boyd calms her and tells her that Mari needs a doctor, not a fiancee. Kristi points out that there is nothing medically that she can do, but Boyd tells her to help by holding on. Donna chases away onlookers while Ellis tries to tell Boyd something. Donna tells him to go, and Ellis brings his father to Elgin. Elgin explains that Fatima saying she was pregnant made him remember the missing portion of his dream. Boyd is shocked by the news, but tells him to continue. Elgin says there was a Boy in White who kept repeating the same phrase: here they come, they come for three, unless you stop the melody. Bakta says it’s an old nursery rhyme that she remembers from her grandmother, and recites in its entirety: They touch, they break, they steal, no one here is free. Here they come, they come for three, unless you stop the melody. Boyd then realizes that he has heard portions of the rhyme before.[16]

The next morning, the comatose Marielle suddenly begins screaming, startling Ellis and Fatima. Later that day, Ellis finds Reggie sitting outside and asks if he is ok. Reggie replies that the answer is obviously not, and Ellis apologizes for the previous night. Reggie admits it was his fault for going crazy, and reminisces about how Paula was the one good in a crisis. Reggie goes on to say he never realized how fragile they all are, and how he was downstairs making dinner when it happened. Ellis tells him that it was not his fault, and Reggie leaves. Fatima arrives and asks how Reggie is doing, and Ellis says he can’t imagine what he would do if he were in Reggie’s shoes. Fatima then asks Ellis if they can get married today because they have no idea what is going to happen and if this is the end, she wants to go out married to him. Ellis happily agrees. That afternoon, they hold a small wedding in Colony House. Donna leads Fatima with hands over her eyes to her and Ellis’ room, where Ellis has made an altar out of flowers by the window. Boyd then arrives, saying that wild horses could not have stopped him. Fatima asks Boyd walk her down the “aisle”, which he happily agrees to. The two recite their vows, express their love for each other and kiss. Something they say reminds Boyd of something, and he tells them that he loves them before leaving. Boyd is eventually able to save everyone and defeat The Musicbox Monster.[17]

Season 3[]

Three days after the defeat of the Music Box Monster, Fatima struggles with morning sickness. A concerned Ellis urges her to eat, but Fatima says her stomach has been off and she just needs rest. Noticing Ellis is anxious, Tillie tells him that the first months are hard, but Fatima will be alright. Donna grabs Ellis to help with the harvest, which he believes is too early. However, after losing half their crops to the storm, Donna does not want to risk the ground freezing. Noticing Elgin walking by in a daze, Donna asks if he has tried to sleep yet before telling Ellis to grab people to help harvest. After the crops are found to all be rotten, Ellis runs to inform his father, whom he brings to the fields outside Colony House. There, Donna informs Boyd that everything that survived the storm is rotten, and they are officially out of food. A worried Boyd then asks how many people know.

Word of the rotten food spreads. A mob breaks into Tian-Chen Liu's house and takes the food supplies stored there. At the Barn, Randall Kirkland tries to take Alma the goat for himself, despite Ethan’s protests. As Ellis arrives, Victor draws his gun on Randall. Boyd calms Victor down and convinces him to hand him the gun. Boyd acknowledges to the gathered crowd that they have experienced a setback, but the animals are their remaining source of food. While they are scared and hungry, they still have to work together and make things last. Boyd tells them that the Township will not break them, and asks for time to figure things out. Randall reluctantly gives the goat back to Boyd who leads it with Ethan back to its pen.[18]

Fatima continues to suffer morning sickness, much to Ellis’ concern, and he suggests seeing Kristi but she rebuffs the idea. Fatima insists she is fine, but begins spitting blood into the sink, pulling a tooth out of her mouth. She allows Ellis to bring her to the Clinic, where they find Mari, who offers to examine Fatima. Ellis, Fatima and Mari discuss Fatima’s morning sickness and lack of eating. Mari reassures Ellis as he asks a litany of questions, calling it a tradition of first-time fathers. However, Fatima is severely malnourished and suffering from exceptionally bad morning sickness. Mari says everything seems fine with the baby, and searches for food that will be easier on Fatima’s stomach. Fatima is escorted back to Colony House by Ellis, before he leaves to see his father. Ellis attends the funeral for Tian-Chen Liu. Afterwards, he approaches his father, who admits he is not doing well. Ellis tries to be supportive, but Boyd says they can’t keep waiting for more information, and asks Ellis for help catching one of the Creatures.[19]

Boyd explains that he plans on using the Talismans to trap a Creature. Ellis is wary, but Boyd thinks that they need to stop playing it safe. Ellis reminds him that he spent one night in the Forest and it almost got him and everyone else killed. Boyd argues that Jim and Kenny found food, and that they need to take chances, regardless of how it may work out. Donna arrives, and informs them that they drew straws and Dale was chosen before asking what is going on. Ellis threatens to tell Donna if Boyd does not, and Boyd admits that he plans on capturing a Creature to learn about them. Donna finds the plan ridiculous, reminding him that they merely smile after receiving a point-blank shotgun blast. Donna sympathizes, admitting she too desires revenge for Tian-Chen, but she does not want Boyd to get killed because of a poorly thought-out plan and orders Ellis not to encourage him, reminding him that he has more to worry about than himself with a baby on the way.[20]

At night, a police officer enters the Township and flees to Colony House while being stalked by the Creatures, whom she tries in vain to kill with her gun. A stray bullet hits Nicky, who was watching from the window. Clara brings Officer Acosta inside while Marielle Sinclair begins tending to Nicky, aided by Ellis, Fatima and Bakta. They help Mari remove the bullet from Nicky's body. Later that night, Boyd arrives with Jim and Tabitha in tow, shocking everyone. As the night goes on, Nicky dies from her injuries. Ellis helps bring Nicky’s body to a bedroom. Fatima regrets being rude to her, and asks to sit with the body alone, and Ellis leaves her. The Creatures leave Randall, mutilated but alive, on the hood of the ambulance.[21]

Boyd and Ellis bring Randall, who has been mutilated by the Creatures, into Colony House. Marielle begins tending to him as everyone stares in horror. Randall begins struggling, and as Boyd tries to restrain him, accuses him of abandoning him to the Creatures.

The next day, everyone gathers in the Diner to hear from Tabitha Matthews how she temporarily escaped the Township. Boyd begins by telling them that they have no easy explanations, and to be mindful of the fact that Tabitha has been through a lot. Dale leads the others in demanding that Tabitha speak, but Donna calms them down. Bakta asks Henry why he was in the ambulance, and as he begins to explain, Tabitha arrives, with Jim. Dale immediately asks if she went through a tree. Tabitha begins explaining her story. After Tabitha concludes her story, Fatima asks if she tried reaching out to the police, and Tabitha says she wanted to, prompting anger. Tabitha justifies herself, saying they would not have believed her, and Henry tries to back her up, pointing out that he didn’t believe her at first, and that his circumstances are different than the average person’s. Acosta agrees, noting that she and the EMTs thought Tabitha hysterical, but this only angers people further, who point out that she killed Nicky. Clara admonishes Tabitha for wasting her opportunity in the outside world to get help. Jim asks the crowd what they would have done. Fatima also criticizes Tabitha, who apologizes for not finding answers and leaves.

Boyd reminds the crowd that Tabitha escaped, and they should have hope now that it is possible. Dale then demands to go to the Bottle Tree, riling up the crowd. Boyd begs them to think, but Bakta agrees that the equation seems simple: Tabitha went through the tree and escaped. Boyd warns that they cannot just run into the Forest, but Fatima says that they should head to the tree, and Ellis agrees. Boyd warns them that the trees are not simply a magic door, reminding them that he almost died after going through one. Kenny agrees with Boyd, reminding the crowd that it was the Lighthouse that allowed her to escape. Dale says he is going to the Lighthouse, declaring himself done with Boyd and his rules before leaving.

After the meeting disbands, Ellis runs after Boyd, who scolds his son for stirring up the crowd with Fatima, describing the situation as a powder keg. Ellis insists that they need to take action rather than sit around worrying about the possibilities. Boyd asks whose life Ellis is willing to gamble on. Boyd warns that what happened at the meeting was dangerous. After he returns to Colony House, he follows his wife to the greenhouse and asks what she is doing. Fatima tells him that she was just checking on their supplies. Ellis says he is trying to be supportive and help but Fatima snaps, saying he cannot help and revealing that the rotten crops are the only food she can keep down. She tearfully tells him that there is something wrong with the baby.[22]

Ellis insists to Fatima that they go to Kristi, and that there must be a medical explanation. Fatima believes otherwise, and does not want people to become afraid of her. Ellis promises that he is not afraid of her, and reiterates that all he wants to do is help. Fatima wishfully says that maybe it will go away when they are interrupted by a knock from Boyd, who brings good news. When Ellis opens the door, Boyd notices their faces and asks what is wrong. Ellis and Fatima explain the situation. After absorbing the news, Boyd informs them that Kristi has an ultrasound machine, but Fatima is afraid and Ellis asks that Boyd leave them for a moment. Outside the door, Boyd is shaken by the news. Fatima refuses afraid of what they might discover, but Ellis says that they cannot simply hope that things will get better.

Ellis finds Boyd outside Colony House and tells him that Fatima needs a minute but will be coming shortly. When she joins them, she says she does not want to say anything to Kristi until he has to. The three travel to the Clinic, Kristi prepares Fatima for the ultrasound. As she examines her, she and Mari are confused by the ultrasound and apologetically explain that she is not pregnant as there is nothing in her uterus. Fatima does not believe them and demands they keep looking. Kristi turns the screen towards them and shows that there is nothing. Fatima says that there is something inside her that she needs them to find, and Ellis says that they need to tell them.[23]

Fatima explains her cravings to Kristi and asks what is happening to her. Kristi says were they anywhere else, she would guess that Fatima is exhibiting symptoms of a psychosomatic pregnancy. Marielle assures her that they do not think she is hysterical and they are not ruling anything out, while Kristi acknowledges that Fatima may have been pregnant. Fatima lashes out and insists that she is still pregnant and can feel something inside of her. Kristi offers to have her and Ellis stay the night but she angrily refuses and storms out. Mari goes with them to set up an IV.

After Mari finishes setting up the IV, Ellis returns to their room. Fatima asks why no one is listening to her. Ellis says they are simply trying to make sure they are thinking of every possibility. Fatima asks Ellis if he believes her, and she tries to explain that whatever is growing inside her is getting stronger, including her cravings and anger. She tearfully says that if the baby is not real, then she is changing.

Later, Tillie finds Ellis and inquires about Fatima. Ellis says they are taking things one step at a time, and she says she knows he is lying, as Fatima told her about the cravings. Tillie offers her support for them both. Ellis reveals that they did an ultrasound the previous night, but found no baby, and the two possibilities are that there is something supernatural growing inside her or she’s lost her mind. Ellis worries about losing her but Tillie says that Fatima is not lost, and says that a friend told her not to grieve the living before they’re gone, as she told her family before she was diagnosed with cancer. Ellis asks if she was afraid of dying, and she admits she was before becoming angry. Eventually, she realized how small and quick life is, and eventually came to terms with it. Tillie reiterates that she is there to offer whatever help she can. Ellis asks why, and she replies that she is old, has cancer, and likes a good love story. The two rush to Fatima's side after hearing her cry out in pain, and Ellis tries to comfort her.

Ellis goes to the Clinic and tries to take powerful antipsychotics for Fatima. Kristi tries to stop him and the two argue when Boyd finds them. Kristi warns that the pills can make things worse, and Boyd agrees with her. Ellis storms out, followed by his father. Ellis, exasperated, asks what he is supposed to do, recalling Boyd’s worms and his mother’s fate, asking which nightmare he should fear. Ellis admits that he is helpless as he watches her fall apart. As Boyd pulls him into a hug, he begs his father not to let anything happen to her.  When he returns to Colony House, he finds Fatima standing over Tillie's body, having stabbed her.[24]

Ellis informs his father, who hides Fatima in the Shack while he tries to figure out how to control the situation. After Tillie's body is discovered, Boyd and Ellis head to Colony House. Boyd reminds Ellis to say that he and Fatima were with him the previous night. Ellis suggests telling the truth and explaining that Tillie’s death was an accident. Boyd tells him that they cannot explain this away. As Ellis panics about Fatima being put in the Box, Boyd orders him to pull himself together and get some supplies for Fatima without arousing suspicion. While Ellis heads off, Boyd goes to the crime scene. After gathering supplies, he heads to the Shack. He tells Fatima that they will get through this. Fatima asks that he and Boyd stop saying that, as she has killed someone. Ellis says they are in this together, but Fatima says that whatever made her do this is still inside her, and may cause her to kill again. Ellis assures her that she is stronger than whatever is doing this to her. Ellis gives her the clothes he has gathered, and the lucky handkerchief. The two express their love, and Ellis promises to return soon.

After he returns to Town, Ellis and Boyd argue over telling the townspeople the truth about Tillie's death. Boyd dismisses Ellis' idea of him and Fatima living in a tent while everyone else takes time to accept what happened. Ellis says they will be safe, but Boyd says Ellis will not be safe from Fatima. As they argue, Donna arrives, warning that a mob is preparing to go after Sara. Boyd then reveals to Donna that Fatima killed Tillie. After Boyd finishes explaining what happened with Fatima, Donna says she has to come back. Boyd says she will, but not yet. Donna explains that she loves Fatima as one of her own, but Boyd cannot hide this. Boyd says he will explain and people will understand, as they did with Sara. Donna warns that people accepted what Sara did because Boyd told them to, but it will not work again because they no longer believe in him. Ellis volunteers to take the fall, but Donna says that will not work, as it does not address the fact that this happened in the first place. Either Fatima's mind has been broken or something evil is growing inside her, and both lead to the possibility of this happening again. Boyd offers to have her kept in the Sheriff's Office, but Donna says that they cannot fix the problem. Donna threatens to reveal to everyone that Fatima killed Tillie if Boyd will not before walking out.

Boyd prepares for Ellis and Fatima to run away, instructing Ellis to stay off the path that leads to the Settlement. He promises to bring supplies to the shack twice a week. Ellis asks Boyd what he would have done had he the chance to run away with Abby after she killed several people. Boyd does not answer, and the two arrive at the shack and find it empty. Ellis desperately calls out for her.[25]

As Boyd and Ellis search for Fatima in the Forest, Boyd warns that it is getting dark, but Ellis refuses to give up the search. Boyd notes that Fatima took the Talisman, and tells Ellis they can return in the morning. As the two argue, Boyd’s hand begins shaking and he stumbles. Unable to walk, Ellis supports him. Ellis helps Boyd back to the Sheriff’s Station. Boyd insists he is fine and has to ring the bell before sundown. As Ellis tries to get him to rest and figure out what is wrong, Boyd snaps and admits he knows what is wrong. Boyd has his son sit with him and pours them both a drink.

That night, Boyd explains that he has Parkinson’s, and figured it out right before he ventured into the Forest with Sara. Ellis asks if anyone else knows, and Boyd answers that Kristi and Kenny do. Ellis is upset that he wasn’t told, with Boyd explaining that he did not want to worry Ellis. Ellis asks if the tremors in his leg happened before, and Boyd says it has not and that it seems it is getting worse. Boyd also reveals that the Creatures forced him to watch Tian-Chen’s death, wanting to break him. Boyd wonders if Fatima’s baby is another thing that they are trying to use to break him. Ellis assures his father that he did not cause this, but Boyd says that they know nothing, but Tillie is dead, Fatima out there somewhere while he sits there uselessly. They are interrupted by a knock at the window from the Nurse Creature, who asks if everything is alright. Agitated, Boyd goes to the window and brandishes his gun at the Creature, but Ellis pulls him back.

The next morning, Boyd tries to keep Ellis from going out on his own and suggests putting a search party together. Sara arrives, and asks if Fatima is alright. Noticing their expressions, Sara says that Fatima is missing. Sara then explains that she heard the voices for the first time since going to the ruins. They told her that she was taken, they want Boyd to know that she is afraid and while she is close, Boyd will be unable to find her in time and save her.

Outside the Diner, Boyd and Donna assemble everyone. Donna acknowledges that everyone is scared and wants answers about what happened to Tillie. Boyd then reveals that Fatima is missing, and they ask everyone to help with the search. One person asks if the same thing that took her is what killed Tillie. Boyd admits he does not know, and only knows that she is close. When asked how he knows this, Boyd says it is because something wants them to know she is close, is alone, afraid, and it believes they do not have what it takes to find her. Boyd says he cannot order them to do anything, but reminds them that they did not always have the Talismans and used to live day to day. The Talismans allowed them to prove that the Township would not break them. The Township is trying to break them again, and Boyd says they have the choice of laying down and dying, or fighting back. They have proven themselves able before, and he asks for their help again, although there is no shame in refusing. Bakta asks how they will do this, and Boyd says they will pair up in groups of two and cover every inch. As people begin fanning out, Boyd tells him that it will be best if one of them finds her, and says they will cover more ground separately. Elgin finds Ellis, and offers to search with him, which Ellis appreciates.

As Ellis and Elgin search, Elgin recalls how a friend of his went missing when he was a child. He was scared, but his grandmother told him not to worry. His friend was later found happy on a playground on the other side of town. Ellis snaps and asks if he thinks that everyone is scared for nothing. Elgin tries to explain that sometimes they assume the worst without knowing, but Ellis reminds him that all they know is his wife is missing. Ellis reveals that he has already lost his mother, surprising Elgin, and he cannot lose Fatima and go through it again.

Ellis and Elgin arrive at the Brundles, and Elgin recalls that Fatima brought him here as his proxy. He then apologizes to Ellis for what happened to Abby, but Ellis brushes it off. Elgin assures him that Fatima will be alright, but Ellis tells him to stop. Elgin reveals that on the Bus, he had a dream and since then, he has felt like something has been trying to talk to him. Elgin theorizes that everything might be happening for a reason, and Fatima might be out there doing something helpful, adding that the baby might be a good thing. Ellis is confused, and asks why this has anything to do with the baby. Elgin says that they do not have all the information, and does not want Ellis to be afraid.[26]

Having grown suspicious of Elgin, Ellis goes to the Sheriff's Station and informs Boyd and Kenny that he believes Elgin knows something. Ellis explains how Elgin said that Fatima was fine, everything was important and how calmly he was approaching the situation.  Boyd tells Kenny and Ellis to go to Colony House and keep Elgin from leaving.

As Elgin prepares to leave Colony House, he finds his way blocked by Boyd, Donna and Sara. Boyd asks if they can talk for a bit, and Elgin agrees. Donna leads him to her room. While Kenny stands watch outside, Boyd begins interrogating Elgin, noting the supplies in his bag. Boyd bluntly asks Elgin if he knows where Fatima is. Elgin explains that she told him not to say anything, but  he is not trying to hurt anyone, and  what is happening is a good thing. Donna asks who is communicating with him. Elgin answers that he believes it is an angel, and something is happening that is beyond their understanding, comparing it to the Bible, and the need to have faith even in the face of adversity. Boyd tells him that there is no baby, as Kristi and Mari performed an ultrasound and found nothing, and whatever is growing inside her is not good. Elgin replies that the angel explained it to him.

Sara reminds Elgin that she previously told him that she killed her brother. She explains that she did this trying to kill Ethan at the behest of mysterious voices who told her it would allow them to go home. Sara tries to make him realize that the Township does not help them, but Elgin says that this is different. Ellis grows angry, and points out that Elgin does not know anything for a certainty. Donna reminds Elgin that even if the baby allows them to go home, its birth is months away, and Elgin reveals that the fetus has grown. Ellis attacks Elgin, but is restrained by Boyd and Kenny. They all go outside, trying to calm him. Sara warns them that if Elgin truly believes this will allow them to go home, he will not tell them anything, as she knows what it is like to be manipulated by the Township. Boyd decides to get Donna’s tools, and instructs them not to let anyone in the room.

Boyd returns to Colony House with the bag of tools. Ellis tries to stop him, but Boyd tells them not to let anyone upstairs, acknowledging that what happens next is on him. As Boyd tortures Elgin, Acosta returns, and overhears Elgin screaming in pain. She runs upstairs, followed by the others, and asks what is happening. As she demands answers, Boyd orders them all downstairs. Boyd and Ellis argue with Acosta, who insists that there is a better way to find Fatima than torturing Elgin. Boyd says she can raise the issue again after they find Fatima. Acosta threatens to tell everyone what is happening, but they are interrupted by Elgin’s screams. They arrive to find Sara gouging out Elgin’s eye with the screwdriver. Sara then informs them that Fatima is in the Root Cellar.

Boyd, Ellis and Kenny run to the Root Cellar, and arrive just after she has given birth. She tells them that the Kimono Woman took the “baby.” Boyd orders Kenny and Ellis to bring Fatima back to Colony House, explaining that they need to know what is coming. Boyd orders Elgin to take care of his wife, promising that he will be right behind them before descending down the hatch with a lantern. Fatima reveals to Ellis that the Creatures were originally people, who sacrificed their children because they were promised immortality.[27]
