Farway Trees are mysterious trees with large hollows that can transport people to various locations across the Township.

History[]

Season 1[]

As they walk through the forest, Victor and Ethan come across a large tree with a hollow near the base of its trunk, which Victor dubs a “Farway Tree.” He then demonstrates its properties by throwing a rock down into the hollow. The rock then falls near them as if it dropped from the sky. Ethan is amazed, and Victor reveals that it works for people too, but the problem is that you never know where you’ll end up. Victor adds that there are many more, but this one is new.[1]

After the Creatures break into Colony House, Victor helps Julie Matthews get to safety. After they escape the house, he leads her into the Forest. Victor finds a Farway Tree and tells her to climb in. The tree transports her to the Root Cellar, where she safely waits out the night. Victor is transported elsewhere.[2]

After they venture into the Forest in search of answers, Boyd Stevens and Sara Myers find themselves trapped outside on a hillside in the middle of a rainstorm. With Boyd barely able to walk due to injuries he sustained, Sara finds a Farway Tree and tells him to get inside. Boyd gets in first, and is transported to the bottom of a dry well.[3]

Season 2[]

After her daughter and several others become possessed by The Musicbox Monster, Tabitha Matthews decides to ask Victor about the tower his mother was trying to get to, as she had believed it would allow them all to escape. Victor reluctantly leads her to the Bottle Tree, which he reveals is the place he found his mother's body. Victor says that they usually transport people to different places, but this one always transports people to same place. Victor then gives Tabitha his lunch box, which he packed with snacks for her. Tabitha thanks and hugs him before going inside the tree. She is then transported to the entrance of the Lighthouse.[4]

Season 3[]

At the Farway/Bottle Tree, Jade tries knocking bottles down. Tabitha tells him that the papers only have numbers written on them. Jade points out that they all have four numbers written on them, and theorizes that they may be dates. However, Tabitha points out that one reads 2659, and thinks that Jim might be right. Jade sits beside her, and admits that he saw the Ghoulish Children, having gone into the Tunnels to find something to help Julie. He explains that he saw the Symbol as a hole in the ceiling, with the lines formed by roots, while the children were on stone slabs repeating “anghkooey.” Jade says he never felt such fear, but felt like there threads finally starting to connect. Jade insists that they cannot deny what the tree did, and believes that the bottles must mean something. Dale arrives, and he marvels at the Bottle Tree. Tabitha and Jade try to convince Dale not to go inside the tree. Dale insists that they have to try, and says they will thank him later as he disappears inside. Instead of taking him to the Lighthouse, it transports him inside the concrete wall of the Star Magic Motel Pool in Town, crushing him to death.[5]
