Fatima Stevens (nee Hassan-Rostami) is one of the people trapped in the Township who lives in Colony House. She is in a loving relationship with Ellis Stevens, whom she eventually marries. While occasionally the trials and stresses of life trapped in the Town can get to her, she is a persistent voice of optimism and hope for those around her.
Biography[]
Background[]
Fatima was born in Iran and her father was an outspoken cleric who provoked the government's ire. On her birthday, men came for her father and her mother instructed her to hide. Her father was dragged outside the house and shot. Eventually, her family was able to escape to the United States.[1]
On February 28, 2021, while driving from Boulder, Colorado to Portland, Oregon, Fatima became trapped in the Township.[2]
Season 1[]
In their room, Fatima models for Ellis, who praises her beauty as he sketches her. When Boyd arrives, Fatima enthusiastically greets him before leaving him alone with his son.[3]
That night, Ellis, Kenny and Father Khatri arrive with three newcomers begging to be let inside Colony House. Fatima tries to let them inside, but the guard doesn’t believe that it’s really them. As the Creatures approach, Donna arrives and grants them entry. However, she orders that Tabitha and Julie be tied up, as per protocol, much to their distress. Julie is tied up downstairs near the pantry, and is frightened by Victor, who is shooed away by Fatima. Fatima apologizes for him and explaining that he has simply been trapped there for a very long time. She further apologizes for the restraints, but explains that it’s only because they don’t want anyone to get hurt. Fatima further explains that she is Julie's proxy, meaning that she is going to keep her company and explain the situation and the laws and customs of the township to help her adjust to her new reality. Fatima then unties Julie, and shows her Ellis’ room, which is covered in his artwork, remarking that he’d love to draw Julie because she’s beautiful. Fatima then shows her the view from the window, in order to show that if you climb high enough, even a nightmare can resemble a dream.[4]
The next day, Fatima finds Julie on the porch and offers her some berries. Julie declines, but notices that they grow their own food. Fatima jokes that the local supermarkets are terrible. Noticing that Julie is feeling down, Fatima tries to comfort her. Later that day, Ellis makes Ethan a crutch to help him get around while he recovers. A sullen Julie asks Fatima why they are helping her family, and Fatima answers that it is just what they do.[5]
The following morning, Fatima finds a crying Julie, who explains that she thinks she made a mistake. Fatima admits it was hard for her at first too, but it helped once she figured out how to get her clothes back from Trudy. Fatima and Julie go outside to take down laundry from the clothesline, and Fatima explains that Trudy has a habit of hoarding clothes she likes.
Tabitha then arrives with a sweater of Julie’s. Tabitha says that they miss her, and Julie admits she misses them. Tabitha entreats her daughter to return with her, pointing out that she can leave whenever she wants. She says they can tell Donna she made a mistake, and Julie grows angry and says she feels like they always treat her as if she’s making mistakes and has to admit she was wrong. As she begins to walk away, Tabitha stops her and says that they need to stick together in this place. Julie scoffs, and admits that she knew her parents were planning on getting a divorce and the roadtrip was a final hurrah before they broke the news, and tells her mother to stop treating her like a child. Tabitha admits her daughter is right, and explains that she and Jim love Julie and Ethan very much before Julie stops her and says that Thomas is dead, but they have two other kids and asks why they aren’t enough for her. Tabitha says it is not that simple but Julie walks away. As she wipes away her tears, Fatima promises to give the sweater to Julie. Later that day, Fatima and Ellis surprise Julie with a new bed, telling her that there are no mistakes, only choices, delighting her. Fatima then gives her the sweater her mother had brought earlier.[6]
Some days later, Fatima finds Julie making a list of everyone who will be wondering where she and her family are, thinking about how it’s worse for them not knowing. Fatima admits she did the same thing when she arrived, and asks who is on the list. Julie lists her grandparents and friends, and Fatima teases her and asks if she has a boyfriend or girlfriend. Julie says she doesn’t have anyone like that, but grimly remarks that it’s probably a good thing, because it means one less person losing their mind over where she is. Fatima decides that Julie needs some fun, and tells her to meet her downstairs in five minutes. Fatima then tells Ellis that Julie is making a list, and they should show her the Brundles.
Ellis and Fatima lead Julie to the Brundles, a small lake in the woods near Colony House where the residents have built a dock and added toys. Julie is shocked to see the happy, normal atmosphere the place has. Fatima remarks that it’s like being anywhere else in the world, prompting Julie to ask how Fatima remains positive. Fatima then explains that she grew up in Iran until she was 11, with an outspoken cleric for a father. On one of her birthdays, men came for her father and her mother instructed her to hide. Her father was dragged outside the house and shot. Fatima concludes that there will always be monsters in the world wherever you are, and that she promised herself that she would not allow them to scare the life out of her. Ellis then returns from the water, and says that Fatima looks too dry, picking her up and carrying her to the water. As Julie, Fatima and Ellis return from the Brundles, Ethan comes running up crying for his sister. They then learn that Sara Myers had tried to kill Ethan, but in the process accidentally killed her brother Nathan, who had tried to stop her.[1]
The next day, Fatima finds Julie potting a flower arrangement and compliments her on her eye, but Julie explains that she found them arranged. Fatima tells her it is laundry day, and takes her with her.[7]
The residents of Colony House prepare the house for a party in honor of the anniversary of Fatima's arrival in Town. Julie finds it odd that they are celebrating the day Fatima got stuck in the Town. Fatima, who is looking for something under her bed, says that she is looking at it the wrong way, and that they are actually celebrating survival, cheekily adding that it’s nice to have a party once in a while. Fatima then finds a sweater, which she keeps from Trudy, who loves it. An admiring Julie tells Fatima that she makes the Town seem almost normal, and that she is special. Fatima is touched, but says that they are all special, even Trudy. Ellis arrives and asks if they want to pregame, both decline, and Fatima tells him to go easy. Ellis teases them both and leaves calling for Victor. Julie asks Fatima if Ellis is alright, and she explains that nights like these are difficult for him, because it makes him remember the people who didn’t make it. Fatima then gives Julie a dress for the party.
As the party is in full swing, Ellis drunkenly stumbles through the crowd. Fatima tells him to slow down but he insists that he is fine. Donna then gives a heartfelt speech praising Fatima and gifts her a dreamcatcher. Everyone then raises a glass to Fatima. Afterwards, Stacey kisses Fatima, and Julie awkwardly stares. Later, a drunk Ellis picks a fight with Dale, but Fatima defuses it. However, Dale tells her to get Ellis upstairs before he starts shooting up the place. Both Fatima and Donna restrain him before he can hit Dale. Fatima asks Ellis if he is ok, and he apologizes and goes to lie down in his room, telling her to stay and celebrate her night.
Later, Fatima finds Trudy sitting by herself and asks what’s wrong. Trudy says she knows Fatima does not like her, which Fatima denies. Trudy remarks that it’s a nice party, and Fatima tells her that she will also get one, but Trudy ominously says she doesn’t think she will. Fatima tells her to take off her shirt, surprising her. Fatima admits that Trudy drives her crazy sometimes, but she is not alone, lending her the sweater Trudy likes, delighting her. Fatima tells her to think of it as an early anniversary present. Trudy is touched by the gift, and leaves to find a gift for Fatima. Julie finds Fatima and compliments her for giving Trudy the sweater. Julie then awkwardly asks what the deal is with Fatima kissing Stacey but being with Ellis. Fatima explains that Ellis is her boyfriend, but was just fooling around with Stacey. A nervous Julie asks if she could kiss Fatima, surprising her. Julie then runs away before Fatima can answer.
Shortly thereafter, the Creatures break into Colony House and begin attacking the residents. Chaos ensues as the residents try to flee and Fatima searches for Ellis. Donna leads people into the van trying to keep order when Fatima finds her. Realizing that Ellis and Julie are missing, Donna prepares to look for them but Fatima tells her to follow protocol and get everyone to Town. Donna agrees and gets inside the van while Fatima stays behind. Ellis is almost cornered by the Creatures, but jumps off the porch roof to escape. Fatima finds him and helps him inside. She then shuts the doors to the foyer in the hope that the Talisman will protect the room. Her idea works, and the Creatures knock on the doors and taunt her. Ellis asks her how she knew that would work, and Fatima tearfully admits that it was a guess based on his father’s experience in the RV. Ellis apologizes to Fatima, and the two say they love each other.[8]
The next morning, Kristi sets Ellis' arm in the clinic. Fatima asks if she can help, and Kristi tells her to make sure Ellis does not leave the bed until Kristi can do a final checkup. Later, Boyd approaches Ellis and Fatima in the Clinic, and informs them that he is going to be leaving to try and find a way out. Ellis grimly remarks that he is going off into the forest with no idea what he is looking for, which worked well the last time. Boyd asks Fatima to excuse them and she does. After Boyd leaves, Fatima returns to Ellis’s bedside and says that she will say something that may make him hate her, but she is ok with that. She tells him that what happened was neither his nor Boyd’s fault, but the fault of the Town. While Fatima may not have been there, she knows that if there was anything else he could have done, he would have. She acknowledges that what happened filled Ellis with rage and made him inconsolable, and he directed that rage at his father, which his father accepted, because that is what parents do. Fatima asks Ellis if he has ever thought about what that day was like for Boyd, and what he has carried with him ever since. Fatima tells him that if he does not get up and go after his father now, he will regret it for the rest of his life. Ellis takes her advice and runs after his father before he leaves on his journey into the Forest. Upon his return, Fatima asks him if he found his father. Ellis answers that he did, and Fatima asks if he is ok. Ellis admits that he is not, and she hugs him.[9]
Ellis finds Fatima sitting on a couch inside. The two talk about Eric, who committed suicide the previous night, and Ellis says he would not have predicted it. Fatima says that the idea that the radio tower might work is more frightening than the idea it won’t. Ellis asks her to elaborate, and she asks how they return to normal life after everything they have seen and done. She further says that they aren’t the same people anymore, and can never truly come home. Ellis recalls that when his father returned from Afghanistan, he said that coming home from war is like traveling from another planet, and you can’t tell if everything is different than you left it or if you are the one that has changed. Fatima asks what it will be like for them in the normal world, because they’ve only known each other in the Town. Fatima leaves before Ellis can answer.[10]
As people work on connecting wires to the lamps in Colony House, Ellis finds Fatima and asks to speak with her privately, saying it’s urgent. Ellis leads her to the spot where he first saw her, driving around lost for hours. Ellis explains that he has been thinking a lot about what she said about going home. He says that he does not remember who he was before her, and does not want to find out who he will be without her. Ellis gets down on one knee and calling her the love of his life and his home, proposes to her. Fatima agrees, and Ellis gives her a makeshift wire ring, which the two laugh over. Fatima tells him that Boyd will be very happy, and kisses him. The Radio Tower is successfully hoisted onto Colony House's roof. Jim and Ethan Matthews operate the radio, and receive a signal. Ethan helps change frequencies while Jim broadcasts a mayday signal. However, a large storm draws near. Most people are sent inside while Donna takes Ethan's place. However, something causes Jim to go running off. Inside, the lightbulbs powering the radio explode, sending shards of glass everywhere and causing chaos, while the storm rages in full force.[11]
Season 2[]
At Colony House, the chaos reigns. Jade leads people in moving the radio equipment inside and out of the rain. Indoors, the lightbulbs continue exploding, one of them hitting Clara in the eye, and Kristi tends to her. Jade then notices that a bus has arrived in Town, shocking him. Julie asks Donna why her father ran off, but Donna cannot answer and orders the kids to go upstairs. Fatima leads Ethan upstairs, but the wind blows the winch through one of the windows, and Julie takes the opportunity to run after her father, with Ellis running after her. Jade then informs Donna about the bus parked outside the Diner. Fatima later goes to Town to help Donna and Kenny deal with the bus passengers.
The Town is similarly chaotic. Jim Matthews, Tom, Randall and Brick had been digging in the caved in basement of the Matthews' house in search of Tabitha when the house collapses, trapping all but Randall in the rubble. With nightfall fast approaching, and the bus driver trying to get her passengers to leave, Donna, desperate to get everyone safely inside, fires a shotgun into the front wheel of the bus and orders everyone inside the Diner. She and Kenny are able to corral most of them indoors, but some run away in fear. With no way to dig them out before nightfall, Jim and the others are left to hide in the rubble overnight.[12]
That night, Fatima tries to call out to the bus passengers to hide and be quiet, and Ellis gets her inside the Sheriff's Office just as two Creatures round the corner. After they shut the door behind them, one of the Creatures says that they are spoiling all the fun. Fatima then sees two of the bus passengers emerge from their hiding place. She tries in vain to warn them. Ellis drags her away from the window as she sees them get surrounded by Creatures. Fatima continues to try and find a way to help them but Ellis tells her there is nothing they can do as they hear the screams of the passengers. Fatima returns to the door and begins shouting at the Creatures outside, who tell her that she will feel better if she comes outside. Fatima begins crying and saying she can’t do this anymore and collapses into Ellis’s arms.[13]
The next day, Fatima tells Elgin that she is his proxy, and will help him adjust. Elgin asks her how long she has been here, and Fatima tells him a year. Elgin then asks if there is a nearby lake or pond, and Fatima leads him to the Brundles. He asks about the name, and she explains that it was called that before she arrived. Fatima asks Elgin how he knew about it and he says he saw it, and realizes that Elgin was the one on the bus who had the dream. Fatima tells him that many people have strange dreams or premonitions, recalling that Nadia used to say it was like the place was calling out to them, but only some were listening close enough to hear. Fatima tells him that people have obsessed over the dreams, but none of them have been able to come up with any answers. Later, Ellis finds Fatima sitting pensively in the Diner. Fatima tells Ellis to promise her that things won’t always be this way. Ellis suggests that they get married, not wanting the Town to be the thing that decides whether or not they get married. Fatima happily agrees, delighting Ellis.[14]
Julie arrives with Ethan at Colony House. While Ethan goes upstairs, Julie finds Fatima, and congratulates her on her engagement. Fatima asks her to be a bridesmaid, explaining that Ellis does not want to wait, so they are getting married in Town. Julie happily accepts, and Fatima thanks her. Julie then mentions how she saw Elgin outside, and Fatima tells her that he is having a rough time. Julie offers to talk to him, remembering how nice it was when she had that. Later, Fatima approaches Donna in the Colony House kitchen, and asks if she is alright, having heard about the fight between Randall and a resident. Fatima says he’ll come around, but Donna says that she knows his type and that he will view everything as a personal attack. Fatima suggests they tweak the rules and Donna retorts that they should give him a whole wing of the house. Donna then gets an axe, and leaves to find Randall, followed by a concerned Fatima. Donna confronts Randall, ordering him to leave if he does not like the rules. Randall refuses, and Donna swings the axe into the wall above his head. Donna then escorts him to the bus, where he is to live and will have no escape from the Creatures looking through the windows.[15]
Donna leads Ellis and the other residents in sorting the food supplies and loading it onto the truck. As Dale brings the last of the potatoes, he remarks that he hopes Donna plans on bringing some of it back. Fatima asks if the boxes are ready to go, and rebuffs Ellis’ offer of help, and Dale asks them if there is trouble in paradise. Donna assures Fatima that they will be fine, so long as they keep their heads and stick to the rations. Donna leaves Ellis and Fatima in charge while she helps store the supplies at the Liu House, reminding them to keep cans on all the doors. Fatima asks what they should tell people about the food, and Donna says for now, they should just say they are working out a new system, so as to avoid a panic. Noticing that things are troubled between Ellis and Fatima, she asks if they will be alright, and Ellis promises they can do it. As night falls, Ellis leads the Colony House residents in preparing for the night by boarding up the windows and hanging alarms at all the doors. Ellis checks on Fatima, who continues to be cold to him, and asks if they are ok, but she insists they are fine.
That night, Ellis asks Fatima what is wrong, and says that his father asked him to promise not tell anyone about Sara. Fatima reminds him that they are getting married and cannot keep things from each other. She further adds that Boyd should not have put him in that position. Ellis says that his father didn’t have a choice, but Fatima says there is always a choice, and that he put people in danger by bringing her back to Town. Ellis agrees and apologizes, but realizes that her distress is not about his dad or Sara, and that ever since the night the bus arrived when they spent the night in the Sheriff’s Office, she has been different. Ellis asks what is going on, but they hear commotion downstairs. In the kitchen, Dale accuses Elgin of sneaking food out of the pantry. Dale adds that it is bad enough that the storm wiped out their crops. Ellis denies this, but Dale says he saw what they loaded on the truck. Dale continues to complain about how the radio tower didn’t work, they have so many people they’re running out of food, and Ellis, Fatima and Donna are concealing the fact to prevent panic. Fatima tries to reply but Dale rudely tells her to shut up, angering Ellis. Dale says that they can’t have new people stealing their limited food supply, and insists that they leave. Dale then brandishes the knife he was using to chop vegetables at Elgin and Bakta. Ellis tries to restrain him, but as Dale turns he accidentally stabs Ellis in the side. Fatima and Bakta help him to a couch, while Clara fetches them towels and they attempt to put pressure on the wound.
Fatima and Bakta tend to Ellis, and Fatima says they will take him by van to the Clinic. Ellis says it is too dangerous, but Fatima says they have lookouts in all the windows and Clara reports that it looks like they’re all clear. Ellis says they can wait until morning, but Bakta gives Fatima a look indicating otherwise. Fatima then calls Elgin over for help, and he helps Fatima get Ellis up and they walk to the door, but Matthias reports that a Creature is coming up the hill and is about 50 yards away. Ellis says he can’t run, and Elgin leaves and tells them to meet him at the steps. Elgin makes a run for the van, and is spotted by two Creatures. After finding the keys, he drives to the front of Colony House and ushers Fatima and Ellis inside as Creatures begin to surround them. As Elgin drives them to the Clinic, Ellis begins to struggle to breathe.
They arrive at the Clinic and are let inside by Kristi and Marielle. Fatima and Elgin explain what happened, and Kristi calls Boyd and Kenny upstairs as she begins tending to him. Marielle tries to help, and Kristi is resistant but tells her where the saline is. Kristi figures out that there is blood in his chest cavity and makes an incision in his side to drain the blood. Meanwhile, Fatima, Boyd and Elgin nervously wait in the next room. Boyd calms a panicking Fatima and asks Elgin if he is ok, and Elgin explains that he isn’t good around blood. Kristi arrives and says she was able to relieve the pressure in his chest, but due to the blood loss he needs a transfusion. Boyd says Ellis’ blood type is O negative, and Kristi says they will use Boyd for a transfusion, but Boyd, fearing that whatever is inside of him will then transfer to his son, refuses. Boyd insists he is not crazy, but Fatima tries to tell him it can’t be worse than dying, but Boyd is adamantly against it. Kenny then points a gun at Boyd and tries to force him to provide his blood. Boyd then begins writhing in pain, and Marielle sees the worms and alerts the others to their presence. Fatima begs them to do something. Kenny retrieves a knife and tells Boyd to transfer the worms to him so he can do the transfusion, and they can figure out the rest later. Boyd refuses, explaining that there is a nightmare happening under his skin which is getting stronger and is not willing to risk passing it onto Kenny.
Boyd then has an idea and rushes outside. After calling out the Creatures, the Smiley Creature arrives. Boyd cuts his own hand and then Smiley's throat before pressing his wound to the Creature's. The worms leave Boyd's body and transfer to Smiley's, and kill the Creature. Assured that he is no longer infected, Boyd returns to the Clinic, and Kristi performs the transfusion. After the successful transfusion, Kristi tells Boyd to lie down, but he promises that he is ok. Fatima watches over a recuperating Ellis, and Kristi asks how his breathing is. Ellis replies that he is fine, and Kristi promises to fetch new sheets. Ellis jokingly asks Fatima if she is still mad at him, and the two kiss. Fatima then leaves, promising to return. She steps out into the hallway and begins crying. Kristi tries to comfort her as Fatima says she almost lost Ellis and is frightened by the worms under Boyd’s skin. Fatima says she needs to ask Kristi something she cannot tell anyone else, and asks for a pregnancy test.[16]
The next morning, Kristi confirms to Fatima that she is pregnant, and asks if she has told Ellis yet. When Fatima answers no, Kristi says that although they are not in ideal conditions, women have been giving birth for thousands of years, and Fatima has the added benefit of having a third-year medical student at her disposal. Fatima does not want to tell Ellis yet, but before they can talk further Kenny summons them upstairs. Once everyone is gathered, Boyd and Kenny lead everyone in inspecting the dead body of Smiley. Kristi marvels at the fact that Boyd actually killed one of them, and Fatima asks what they should do with the body. Kenny says they should burn it, but Boyd and Kristi want to bring it inside and perform an autopsy to learn more about the Creatures. Kenny points out that they do not even know if it is safe to touch the Creature, and Boyd says that it’s Kristi’s call. Kristi decides to study it, and Mari offers to get a sheet so they can drag it inside. Boyd then tells Ellis to get back to Colony House to avoid having a crowd descend on the Clinic to check on him while they’re doing the autopsy. Kristi gives Ellis and Fatima the go ahead, telling them to return if he has any trouble breathing. When they arrive at Colony House, Donna helps bring Ellis upstairs to his room.
Later, Julie is shocked to hear from a recuperating Ellis that Dale stabbed him. Ellis explains that things have been tense in Colony House, but both he and Fatima assure her that they are fine. Julie prepares to leave to let them rest, and is given a goodbye hug by Fatima. Julie says she misses them, Fatima returns the sentiment and Ellis says she is welcome any time, while Julie says they are welcome at the Liu house. As she exits, she almost runs into Donna, who is carrying a tray of food. Donna asks if she is leaving already, and Julie jokes that she has to make sure Ethan isn’t building a spaceship with Victor. After she leaves, Ellis says he thought they were in the midst of a food shortage, which Donna says is temporary and he needs to regain his strength. Donna apologizes for not being present when the incident happened, but Ellis tells her that Dale’s actions are not her fault. Donna praises Fatima for getting Ellis to the Clinic in time and leaves them.
In the greenhouse outside Colony House, Fatima finds Donna inspecting the plants, which keep dying as if being grown in poisoned soil. Fatima reveals that she is pregnant, and Donna is delighted, hugging her and saying she wishes she could have seen Ellis’ face when he found out he will be a father. Fatima confesses that she hasn’t told him because she was told that she cannot have kids, making her think that this place is trying to torture and mock her like the Creatures at night. Donna begins laughing, and explains that they have seen so many unexplainable, horrible things, so they assume everything impossible that happens is bad. However, Fatima met the love of her life in this nightmare and is now having a baby with him which she was told she couldn’t have. Fatima is still hesitant, but Donna asks her if after all she has seen she can’t believe in a miracle, which is the flip side of a nightmare. Fatima asks what if Donna is wrong, but Donna simply asks what if she is right.[17]
Reggie arrives at Colony House and explains to everyone what happened to Paula and searches for Donna. Fatima says that she isn’t inside, and Kristi adds that she last saw her at the Clinic hours ago, and she was supposed to go to the house afterwards. Reggie worries that they are all going to die, and Fatima steps up and tells him to relay Boyd’s instructions. Reggie says that no one can go to sleep, and Fatima says they will focus on following instructions while Boyd and Donna get themselves sorted. Fatima takes Reggie to change his clothes and tells everyone to partner up to make sure they don’t fall asleep. Bakta asks how long, and Fatima answers that they will figure that out later. Later that night, Reggie runs around in a panic shaking people, telling them not to go to sleep and that nothing can protect them. Ellis and Fatima try to calm him down, but Reggie pushes Ellis down. Elgin restrains him as Fatima tries in vain to calm him as Reggie tells everyone that they are all going to die. Ellis orders Elgin to bring Reggie upstairs, and Elgin drags the screaming Reggie upstairs.
Elgin teaches Tillie how to crochet when Fatima arrives. Tillie compliments Fatima on her leadership, and tells her that she will be a great mother. Fatima and Elgin are shocked, and Tillie says that she has multiple children and grandchildren, and can spot an expecting mother. Fatima asks a crestfallen Elgin what is wrong, and he answers that he just remembered his dream. At that moment, Matthias notices Donna returning in the van. When Boyd and Donna enter, everyone crowds around them asking questions. Kristi Miller then calls for help, as Marielle has a seizure and becomes catatonic. Ellis brings his father to Elgin. Elgin explains that Fatima saying she was pregnant made him remember the missing portion of his dream. Boyd is shocked by the news, but tells him to continue. Elgin says there was a Boy in White who kept repeating the same phrase: here they come, they come for three, unless you stop the melody. Bakta says it’s an old nursery rhyme that she remembers from her grandmother, and recites in its entirety: They touch, they break, they steal, no one here is free. Here they come, they come for three, unless you stop the melody.[18]
The next morning, the comatose Marielle suddenly begins screaming, startling Ellis and Fatima. Later, Fatima finds Ellis outside after he finishes talking to Reggie. She asks Ellis how Reggie is doing, and Ellis says he can’t imagine what he would do if he were in Reggie’s shoes. Fatima then asks Ellis if they can get married today because they have no idea what is going to happen and if this is the end, she wants to go out married to him. Ellis happily agrees. They hold a small wedding in Colony House later that afternoon. Donna leads Fatima with hands over her eyes to her and Ellis’ room, where Ellis has made an altar out of flowers by the window. Boyd then arrives, saying that wild horses could not have stopped him. Fatima asks Boyd to walk her down the “aisle”, which he happily agrees to. The two recite their vows, express their love for each other and kiss. Something they say reminds Boyd of something, and he tells them that he loves them before leaving. Boyd is ultimately able to save everyone and defeat The Musicbox Monster.[19]
Season 3[]
Fatima struggles with morning sickness, and is scolded by Nicky for being given double rations and hogging the bathroom. Ellis, concerned, urges her to eat, but Fatima says her stomach has been off and she just needs rest.[20]
Fatima continues to suffer morning sickness, much to Ellis’ concern, and he suggests seeing Kristi but she rebuffs the idea. Fatima insists she is fine, but begins spitting blood into the sink, pulling a tooth out of her mouth. She allows Ellis to bring her to the Clinic, where they find Mari, who offers to examine Fatima. Ellis, Fatima and Mari discuss Fatima’s morning sickness and lack of eating. Mari reassures Ellis as he asks a litany of questions, calling it a tradition of first-time fathers. However, Fatima is severely malnourished and suffering from exceptionally bad morning sickness. Mari says everything seems fine with the baby, and searches for food that will be easier on Fatima’s stomach. Fatima is escorted back to Colony House by Ellis, before he leaves to see his father. While struggling to open the door, Fatima notices Nicky organizing the spoiled crops and she explains that they are going to try composting them to see if it will improve the soil. Nicky also apologizes for berating Fatima the previous day. After Nicky leaves, Fatima begins devouring the rotted vegetables.[21]
Fatima arrives in the kitchen and finds Clara cooking a steak. She explains that they divided up the meat from the cow killed by the Creatures. Fatima declines her offer of food, and begins to grow nauseated. She goes outside and finds a pile of the rotted crops and begins eating them. When she notices Tillie watching her, she runs off. Tillie approaches Fatima upstairs, and reveals that she too had strange cravings during her first pregnancy. Tillie tries to reassure her that whatever is happening will pass. Fatima begins crying as Tillie tries comforting her. Fatima is afraid of talking to anyone or worrying Ellis. Fatima admits she is terrified that something is wrong with the baby. Tillie says that every first time mother goes through this, but Fatima says she was not even able to conceive and now she just wants to know if the baby is alright. Tillie says they should find out.
Tillie searches with Fatima, passes a sleeping Elgin and finds a deck of tarot cards. Fatima dismisses her, and admonishes Tillie for continuing her “batty, kooky schtick” after she confided in her. Tillie is insulted, and says that she may not believe, but reminds her that she likely did not believe in anything she’s seen in the Township since her arrival. Fatima agrees to a reading, and Tillie explains that the cards were given to her by Gertie, who was in the same hospice care as Tillie’s husband. Gertie did a reading for Tillie after her husband’s death, and while she dismissed it at the time, the cards foretold her cancer and arrival in the Township. After Fatima shuffles, Tillie lays out several cards and tells her to ask a question. Fatima asks if her baby is okay as a crow slams into the window. As Tillie turns over the first card, the crow slams through the window, sending people into a panic as it flaps about before slamming into the wall near Elgin, waking him up.[22]
After the bird incident, Mari examines Fatima, and admits that she is worried about Kristi. Fatima assures her that they have shelter and Talismans, but admits she would feel the same if it were Ellis. Mari notes that Fatima looks better and asks if she has been eating more, and Fatima answers that she found something she can keep down. That night, a police officer gets trapped in the Township. She flees, stalked by the Creatures, to Colony House. As she tries shooting the Creatures, a stray bullet hits Nicky, who was watching from the window. While Clara gets Officer Acosta inside, Bakta, Ellis and Fatima help Mari removes the bullet from Nicky’s body. Boyd arrives in the ambulance, and with the Matthews helps Henry get inside Colony House. Everyone is shocked to see Tabitha again, having thought that she was dead after she was missing for several days. As the night goes on, Nicky passes away from her injuries. Ellis helps bring Nicky’s body to a bedroom. Fatima regrets being rude to her, and asks to sit with the body alone. After Ellis leaves, Fatima begins consuming the blood from Nicky’s wound.[23]
