The Forest, also referred to as the Woods, encompasses most of the area of the Township, surrounding the Town and Colony House. It is filled with mystery and danger.
Geography[]
The Fallen Tree marks the boundary into the Township, trapping all who enter. The road extends through the center of Town through the forest. The forest surrounds the Town and Colony House, extending for miles, and the terrain gets more hilly further from Town. One feature of the forest is the mysterious Farway Trees, which can teleport people or objects. One particular such tree, the Bottle Tree, transports people who climb inside the hollow to the Lighthouse.

Shortly after he first arrived in the Township, Boyd Stevens went exploring in the forest. One day, he found goats and chickens wandering near the edge of the Town. The livestock found in the forest would become a core part of the food supply for the inhabitants of the Town. Some days later, Boyd got lost in the forest after dark and happened upon the Talisman Cave, where he took shelter, discovering the Talismans that repelled the Creatures.[1]
Season 1[]
After first arriving in Town, the Matthews family panics after the road keeps on looping them back to the center of town. Jim Matthews tries turning their RV around and driving in the opposite direction, but they encounter a speeding Audi heading their way, and the two vehicles swerve to avoid each other, crashing. The Matthews family and the passengers of the Audi are aided by the residents of the Town and Colony House.[2]
Rather then send him to his death in the Box as punishment for his negligence that caused his family's death, Boyd Stevens tells Frank to go live in the Shack near the tree line and make life there. Frank opts to go into the Box, reasoning that everyone he loves is dead.[3]
Victor takes Ethan Matthews to the Forest in search of the Boy in White. They see a vision of him and follow it through the Forest. While there, Victor shows him a Farway Tree. Jim and Tabitha, Ethan's parents, go to the Forest in search of Ethan but are surrounded by a pack of barking dogs, who are scared off by a gunshot from Victor.[4]
After Sara Myers accidentally kills her brother Nathan while trying to kill Ethan Matthews, she runs away, pursued by Father Rudra Khatri. Father Khatri later tells everyone that she ran into the forest and he couldn't keep up.[5]
