Plot[]
As Jim struggles to sleep, he notices Tabitha is awake, and she explains that she had a nightmare. She blames herself for not trying to get help while she had the chance in the outside world. Jim rises and says she did the best she could, trying to comfort her. However, this only angers Tabitha, who says he has no idea and is just saying that to make her feel better. As the two argue, Jim says that she always finds it easier to cut and run and deal with things on her own, which is why she wanted a divorce. Tabitha reminds him that he was able to throw himself into work, while she dealt with the effects of Thomas’ death on their children. Jim then storms out of the room.
The next morning, Julie finds her mother in the kitchen and asks where Jim is. Tabitha answers that he went to the Log Cabins to help gather the rest of the food. Julie asks if this had anything to do with their argument the previous night. As Tabitha prepares to speak, Julie remarks that things are normal again with them fighting, and leaves to get Ethan for breakfast.
In the Bar, Boyd and Jade discuss the Bottle Trees. Jade explains that the Lighthouse somehow led Tabitha to Camden. Jade tries to explain that the Bottle Tree was important to Miranda, and it has to mean something. Boyd asks if he has seen the bottles from the other tree that he and Sara found in the forest. One of the bottles he pulled down had a note that read 1864. Jade finds a slip of paper from the Farway Tree-Bottle Tree with the same number, and asks to be taken to Boyd’s.
In Colony House, Victor finds his father in his room. As Victor gathers supplies, Henry asks if Victor could show him around. Victor explains that he has something important that he has to do, and does not think it’s a good idea if Henry joins. He explains that the task is dangerous and he does not want Henry to get hurt, but offers for Henry to walk with him, which he gladly accepts.
In the Clinic, Marielle and Kenny sort the supplies from the ambulance. As he leaves, he runs into Boyd, who asks if he is okay. Kenny promises that he is fine, and does not want to talk about it right now. Inside, Boyd finds Randall convalescing. Kristi, now on crutches, finds him and informs him that Randall is doing better, and the ambulance had an ultrasound aboard, telling him to inform Fatima.
Meanwhile, Ellis insists to Fatima that they go to Kristi, and that there must be a medical explanation. Fatima believes otherwise, and does not want people to become afraid of her. Ellis promises that he is not afraid of her, and reiterates that all he wants to do is help. Fatima wishfully says that maybe it will go away when they are interrupted by a knock from Boyd, who brings good news. When Ellis opens the door, Boyd notices their faces and asks what is wrong.
At the pool, Donna uses tones to erect a cairn over Dale’s body, which is still trapped in the concrete. Tabitha approaches and offers her condolences. Donna asks if Tabitha is alright after the meeting, and she says that she feels like she let everyone down by not getting answers. Donna reminds her that her children thought she was dead, and that they didn’t need answers, they needed her back. Tabitha wonders if the others were right and she wasted her opportunity, but Donna points out she could have ended up like Dale, and advises that she not be a hero, but spend time with her children and not take it for granted. Tabitha pulls Donna into a hug and comforts her.
As Victor and Henry traipse through the Forest, Henry tries to wrap his head around Victor’s plan. As they reach the entrance of the Tunnels, Victor says Henry should return but he refuses to leave and risk losing Victor again. As they enter, Victor prepares to use toy soldiers as markers so they do not get lost, and instructs Henry to be quiet and stay close.
In Colony House, Ellis and Fatima finish explaining Fatima’s situation. Boyd informs them that Kristi has an ultrasound machine, but Fatima is afraid and Ellis asks that Boyd leave them for a moment. Outside the door, Boyd is shaken by the news. Fatima refuses afraid of what they might discover, but Ellis says that they cannot simply hope that things will get better.
In the Clinic, Marielle arrives to change Randall’s bandages, much to his chagrin. Neither wound has any sign of infection, but Mari warns that there will be pain and discomfort. Randall demands that he see his wounds, and Mari finds a mirror for him before giving him some privacy.
In his house, Kenny looks through his kitchen before finding Julie outside smoking weed. After promising not to tell her parents, he asks about a screwdriver his mother kept in the junk drawer. Julie apologetically admits that her father probably moved it without thinking. Kenny promises that it is not a big deal, but his face falls once he goes inside, and he gazes longingly at the shrines to his parents.
Victor and Henry make their way through the Tunnels. They reach the large chamber, but find it empty of all the objects that Victor and Tabitha had seen, with no sign of the Creatures.
Ellis finds Boyd outside Colony House and tells him that Fatima needs a minute but will be coming shortly. As Fatima comes down the stairs, Elgin takes her picture with the polaroid camera, surprising her. Elgin explains that he is trying to put together a Colony House photo album. Outside, Fatima says she does not want to say anything to Kristi until he has to.
In the Forest, Jade finds Boyd’s Bottle Tree, and is greeted by a vision of Tom. Jade theorizes that everything in the Township has a design, but Tom says that might be Jade’s problem, because while nature has a design, the Bottle Tree is manmade. Jade says that Miranda saw it in a vision, and is therefore meaningful. Tom asks if Jade’s visions of Civil War soldiers or people crushed by boulders were meaningful. As Jade grows more frustrated, Tom tells Jade that he needs to sober up if he wants to figure things out.
At the Lius’, Ethan reads one of Tian-Chen’s books when Tabitha arrives. Ethan asks if Tian-Chen is with Bing-Qian now and if their marriage was happy. Tabitha apologizes for the fight, and says that they are trying their best. Ethan remarks that he liked it more when they first arrived and were too scared to be angry. Ethan asks if they were fighting over what Jade is doing, and Tabitha explains that Jade is trying to solve the puzzle. Tabitha hears noises upstairs, and after Ethan says no one elsie is home, she goes to investigate. She is confronted by several Ghoulish Children chanting “anghkooey” as she tells them to leave. Ethan arrives as they disappear, hearing her cries. After explaining that it was the children, Ethan takes her outside.
Kenny finds Donna as she completes the cairn for Dale. He asks if she has extra space at Colony House for him. He explains that his mother was the only thing that made his house feel like a home, and she would want a family to have it. Donna tells him that they will always have room for him.
In the Bar, Tabitha and Ethan find Jade writing notes and offer to help Jade solve his puzzle. Jade tells Tabitha that there is another Bottle Tree with the same numbers, albeit written out in cursive. Furthermore, some numbers repeat. Jade admits that he has no idea what it means, but believes that it points them closer to answers.
At the Clinic, as Randall prepares to leave, Marielle instructs him to apply disinfectant every time he changes the bandages. Randall asks why she is pretending like she is fine after her ordeal with the Music Box Monster. Marielle refuses to answer, and Randall says they experienced the same things. Randall remarks that it must be easier to cope with someone to sleep beside at night, but he is alone on the bus and is terrified. Mari tells him that he does not need to stay at the bus and offers to put him in one of the Clinic’s rooms, telling him that no one has to be alone.
In the Tunnels, Victor and Henry advance further inside. They find a chamber where Jasper is seated at a table with chairs and a child’s tea set, as well as sleeping Creatures. Victor grabs Jasper, but Henry is distracted by a scarf that belonged to Miranda. The noise wakes up the Creatures, and the Swing Coat Creature tells him that if he keeps coming to the Tunnels, one day they will make him stay. Terrified, the Kavanaughs run out.
At the bus, Julie finds Randall moving his stuff out. After joking that he is moving to an oceanside condo, he explains that he is moving to the Clinic on Marielle’s offer. Julie asks how she is doing, and Randall answers that she is pretending that nothing happened. Randall asks how Julie is doing, and she says she gets stoned a lot, which helps, and he asks if she has anything with her as she holds up the bag.
Victor and Henry go to the Clairy’s Canned Goods Truck, where Henry asks why the Creatures had Miranda’s scarf. Victor explains that the Creatures like to take people’s belongings and he does not know why. Henry asks about the truck, and Victor explains that he used to hide in the truck at night before other people arrived. Henry realizes that it was because he was alone, but Victor comforts him, telling him that Jasper will allow them to escape. Victor says that he heard Jasper tell Christopher a story about the Township once, and they need to make him tell it again.
At the Clinic, Kristi prepares Fatima for the ultrasound. As she examines her, she and Mari are confused by the ultrasound and apologetically explain that she is not pregnant as there is nothing in her uterus. Fatima does not believe them and demands they keep looking. Kristi turns the screen towards them and shows that there is nothing. Fatima says that there is something inside her that she needs them to find, and Ellis says that they need to tell them.
In Colony House, Elgin hangs the polaroids on a cord. As he looks at Fatima’s, he notices the Kimono Woman appear in the photograph. The Kimono Woman then appears next to him, grabbing him and telling him to help her, as she can save him everyone else. Clara arrives, and finding Elgin looking shaken, asks if he is alright. He answers that he is fine, and she compliments the collage.
Jade and Ethan go over the numbers as Jade explains that there has to be a pattern. They observe that some of the numbers are backwards sometimes. Jade goes over to Tabitha and says that the Children will not hurt her, as they want her help. Tabitha reminds him that this is based on something a dead woman saw 40 years ago. She then finds Jade’s drawings of the Totems, and he explains that he found them scattered around the Log Cabins. Tabitha flashes back to her childhood, and asks if he saw three red stones in a circle. Tabitha explains that as a child, she would have the same nightmare repeatedly, and that she also saw the Township in her dreams but did not know it.
