Plot[]

The morning after the attack at the Barn, Jade leaves the Bar to find out what happened, despite Victor’s protests. He arrives at the Barn and finds Tian-Chen’s eviscerated corpse and Boyd half conscious, repeating something in Cantonese. Jade wakes up Boyd, and after freeing him with the handcuff key that the Creatures left in his pocket, he crawls to Tian-Chen, beginning to sob and apologize for failing to save her as he breaks down.

At the log cabins, Jim explores the area, finding a lake and huge numbers of cabbage growing around it, informing Kenny, who is delighted.

In Camden, Tabitha wakes up on Henry’s couch, and finds Henry asleep in a nearby chair with a gun in his hand. Tabitha asks what happened, but grows alarmed at the sight of the gun. Henry tells her she passed out, and orders her to sit. Henry demands she explain how she found the lunchbox. Tabitha explains what happened to her family and how they became trapped in the Town. As she explains, Henry cuts her off, and agitatedly asks where she got the lunchbox. Tabitha says Victor gave it to her. Henry does not believe her, and threatens to call the police. Tabitha begs him not to, but Henry says he called them 20 minutes ago.

Sara arrives at the Clinic, much to Kristi’s fury, and informs her that Tian-Chen was killed the previous night before departing. Marielle arrives, and Kristi sadly tells Mari that Tian-Chen was killed. In Town, Boyd and Jade bring Tian-Chen’s body to the Church as onlookers mournfully watch, Victor among them. At the Church, they place her on a cot. Boyd says they should bury her with Bing-Qian. Jade asks Boyd how he survived the encounter with the Creatures and Boyd answers they wanted him to watch before leaving. Outside, Boyd walks to his office, flashing back to Tian-Chen’s torturous death, while Donna asks if the news is true.

At the Lius’, Ethan is struggling to process Tian-Chen’s death, insisting that she is just injured and they need to help her. Victor, trying to leave, breaks down and bluntly tells him that she is dead, reminding Ethan that the bad things that happen in the Township are real before leaving.

At Henry’s house, Tabitha shows Henry missing persons reports of people trapped in the Township. Henry refuses to believe her, asking how she was the one person who escaped. Tabitha says she does not understand but Victor helped her, and is friends with her son and saved her daughter. As she talks about saving the children in the tower, Henry grows interested. Tabitha explains that she saw visions of Ghoulish Children, and maybe saving them would allow them to escape. The police then arrive. Henry covers for her, saying it was false alarm.

Boyd explains what happened the previous night to Donna, who asks how many animals were saved, scolding him for risking peoples lives to save livestock. Boyd defends his decision, and the two begin arguing about their situation. As Boyd begins breaking down, Donna sympathizes, and says he tried and lost because the game is rigged. Donna expresses anger at herself for believing Boyd’s promise that they would go home. Donna leaves to dress the cow that was killed before the meat spoils.

In Colony House, Fatima continues to suffer morning sickness, much to Ellis’ concern, and he suggests seeing Kristi but she rebuffs the idea. Fatima insists she is fine, but begins spitting blood into the sink, pulling a tooth out of her mouth. She allows Ellis to bring her to the Clinic, where they find Mari, who offers to examine Fatima.

Kristi approaches Boyd, who is staring at the overturned truck in the motel pool and explains he no longer remembers to who it belonged. Kristi reminds him it belonged to Danny and Shay, who Boyd recalls as good kids. Kristi tries to reassure Boyd that the previous night’s events are not his fault. Kenny then arrives, ecstatically announcing that they found a new food supply. He and Jim notice everyone’s grim expressions. Jim asks about his children but Boyd says they are fine. Kenny then notices the blood on Boy’d shirt and asks about his mother, calling for her in Cantonese. As Boyd tries to tell him, Kenny refuses to listen. Kristi follows him to the Diner, where Clara is laying down flowers in tribute to Tian-Chen. She leaves apologetically as Kenny begins sobbing, insisting he is okay to Kristi. Kenny professes the need to sit in quiet, and Kristi joins him.

Ellis, Fatima and Mari discuss Fatima’s morning sickness and lack of eating. Mari reassures Ellis as he asks a litany of questions, calling it a tradition of first-time fathers. However, Fatima is severely malnourished and suffering from exceptionally bad morning sickness. Mari says everything seems fine with the baby, and searches for food that will be easier on Fatima’s stomach.

Kenny reminisces how his mother would say that no matter how bad things got, they would never get that day again. Kenny asks if she suffered, but retracts the question before asking about his mother’s body, recalling how he always thinks about how he found his father. He asks Kristi to make his mother look nice for her funeral. Kristi accepts, and tells him to come to her if he needs anything. As the song “Celebration” starts playing on a jukebox, Kenny smashes it in frustration.

Jim returns home and finds Julie, who tells him about Tian-Chen’s death. Julie then tells him that Ethan is upstairs. Jim tries to reassure Julie, but Julie snaps and says that nothing is alright, Ethan almost died, and she can no longer act as the replacement parent while Jim loses it. Jim reminds her that he was searching for her mother but Julie says she is gone, noting how it has been four days. Julie says that he and Tabitha fell apart after Thomas’ death and there was no one there for Ethan, and she had to step in as a 15 year old. Julie tells Jim to get it together.

As Henry and Tabitha eat, Henry explains that Miranda began hearing voices of children calling out to her, asking to be saved from the tower. The only person he told was a detective who died 20 years prior. He shows her Victor and Eloise’s room, and explains his life fell apart after their disappearance, even being suspected of playing a part in it. Henry explains that he has concluded that Tabitha is telling the truth, and he wants to show her the basement.

In the Church, Kristi finds Jade watching over Tian-Chen’s body, eyeing in horror the damage they did to her body. Kristi admits she does not know how to prepare the body, but Jade offers to help.

Fatima is escorted back to Colony House by Ellis, before he leaves to see his father. While struggling to open the door, Fatima notices Nicky organizing the spoiled crops and she explains that they are going to try composting them to see if it will improve the soil. Nicky also apologizes for berating Fatima the previous day. After Nicky leaves, Fatima begins devouring the rotted vegetables.

Ethan finds Donna butchering a cow while looking for Victor. Ethan, having never seen what the inside of a body looks like, asks if that is what Tian-Chen looked like after the Creatures got to her. He then observes how different everything is with the snow, musing that she would have liked it. Before he leaves, Donna assures Ethan that Tian-Chen loved him very much.

While Jade and Kristi clean Tian-Chen’s body, Sara arrives with a dress from storage. Sara explains that they used to try on dresses for fun, and this one was Tian-Chen’s favorite, which she wanted to wear the day they went home.

In the Bar, Boyd finds Kenny filling jugs of moonshine. Kenny explains that he cannot be dissuaded from going to the Tunnels, where he plans on burning the Creatures to death. Boyd is wary, but agrees. At the mouth of the caves, Boyd remarks that Jade was disturbed by what he saw, and he did not find the Creatures. He further explains that the Creatures want them angry and stumbling around in the dark, but promises to go with Kenny to try and take out as many as possible. Kenny admits he cannot stop thinking about how alone his mother was in her final moments. Boyd said she was not alone, as they made him watch helplessly, but assures Kenny that she was strong and brave, and kept repeating something in Cantonese to him. Boyd repeats it, and Kenny tells him it means “take care of him, he’ll be alone now.” As Kenny cries, Boyd pulls Kenny into a hug and takes him back into Town.

In the Church, Tian-Chen’s body is ready for the funeral. Kristi nervously asks if it looks ok, and is reassured by Jade who tells Tian-Chen’s body that she’ll come with them when they go. Boyd and Kenny arrive, and Kenny goes to his mother’s body.

Julie finds Sara and thanks her for saving them. Julie admits that she thinks the Township has gotten to her head, and admits that she does not want to end up like Sara. Sara understands, and offers to be there if she needs to talk.

In Camden, Henry explains that after an acid trip, Miranda started having visions. In the basement, Tabitha finds visions of the Ghoulish Children. Henry continues to explain that Miranda had visions of the Township, the Creatures, and that she had to find and free the children. Miranda believed she was chosen, like others before her who had all failed. Henry says Tabitha has been chosen, and asks how she escaped as Tabitha finds a painting of the Boy in White.

Meanwhile in Town, a funeral is held for Tian-Chen. Ethan places Tian-Chen’s blanket over her shrouded body. After the funeral, Ellis approaches his father, who admits he is not doing well. Ellis tries to be supportive, but Boyd says they can’t keep waiting for more information, and asks Ellis for help catching one of the Creatures.

On their way home, Ethan asks if they will still live in Tian-Chen’s home. Julie walks to the Barn to check on the animals, and Ethan follows her. Jim tells them to be careful. After he returns to the house, the phone in the kitchen rings. When he picks up, a child’s voice addresses him as “dad,” and claims to be Thomas.

Trivia[]

  • The episode's title references Jade's echoing what he told Tian-Chen when she was mourning Bing-Qian in Oh, the Places We'll Go, that their loved ones come with them when they go.
  • Fatima struggles to open the seemingly unlocked door to Colony House, leading some to believe that she or the baby might be turning into a Creature.
  • Nathan Simmons (Elgin Williams) does not appear in this episode. Shaun Majumder (Father Khatri) is credited in this episode, despite not appearing and no longer being part of the main cast.
  • Tabitha says her family was traveling to Colorado to see relatives when they got trapped. This directly contradicts the wanted posters tweet and other social media posts, which said that the family was heading towards Yellowstone National Park from Glendale, Arizona, implying that it was the final family trip before Jim and Tabitha finalized their divorce. The route from Glendale to Yellowstone also does not pass through Colorado. Until now, the wanted posters on social media have been the most authoritative source of information for many characters' whereabouts prior to their disappearance.
  • Miranda's paintings of the Township include:
